I stayed at Moda this past weekend and unfortunately, it was a terrible experience. The hotel interior, including the common spaces, lobby, and rooms were grubby and in dire need of a deep clean and refresh.
When we checked-in, we were greeted by staff behind plastic barriers that reminded us of a cheap motel. It did not feel welcoming or make us feel safe. While the staff was nice, they did too represented the feel “run down” of the entire property.
The garage was another concerning element. The entire garage experience was confusing and made us feel unsafe. It was off property, one block over. It was dirty, smelled of urine, and had garbage and clothes in corners of the garage. During our weekend stay, multiple fires were set in the garage, and on Sunday morning, we encountered Vancouver Fire as we went to check on our car. We were told that there was a fire, and they were trying to clear the smoke out. We learned that this was a common occurrence. In Sunday alone, fires were started 3x.
The room was no better than the rest of the hotel. Everything needs a deep clean and refresh. On a separate occasion, we rode up the elevator with another guest who was leaving to go to another hotel due to the conditions of the hotel and garage. They too shared that they had learned from others in the neighborhood that fires and other unsafe conditions in the hotel were common.
Overall, this was an extremely disappointing experience, and I believe it warrants at minm partial refund.
