The in-room description on the reservation through Expedia was different from the room into which we were booked.We were to have a “1 king, 2 bedroom suite, oceanfront” that priced out by Expedia from $550 to $560 per day (paid in advance through Expedia),not including taxes and fees.The hotel receptionist verified, the room we were actually booked into was a standard room, priced at approximately $325/day, not including taxes and fees and that we would have to work with Expedia for a refund. Expedia tried multiple times to verify the price differences and after at least 8 days, they informed us that they were unable to obtain approval for a refund from the manager. We also tried to speak to the manager. We were denied a phone number. We left multiple messages and never received a response. According to the receptionist, the manager, when she finally talked to Expedia, told them something about "room taxes,” indicating that what we had already paid did not account for room taxes. (Since we have not been able to talk to the manager we don’t know exactly what she reported to Expedia.) The manager may be confused, because our Expedia receipt shows that the higher room rate and room taxes were paid. Apparently Expedia can do no more for us. So, we are left with doubts about the efficacy of using Expedia to plan future travel, especially if hotels can switch the quality of a booked room at-will. We cannot recommend that any travelers plan a stay at the Kohea Kai Maui!

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. We apologize for failing to meet your expectations. However, hotels have different taxes associated as well as hotel fee which is the only thing hotel collects upon arrival. Unfortunately due to booking and paying Expedia, you were referred back to Expedia to discuss your reservation because it is where you made the reservation. Hotel only collects your hotel fee. Again, we apologize this was not made clear to you and we hope in the near future you will allow us a chance to better accommodate you.

8 of us stayed in the 3 bedroom 2 bath suite. It was nice and spacious, larges kitchen and dinning area, washer and dryer. The staff was great, short drive to shopping center and eateries in the area. 👍👍👍

Great, friendly, clean hotel.

Great location. The had some good quality beach equipment (chairs, umbrellas, coolers) that you could borrow. Friendly staff. Breakfast was basic but ok.

The employees were kind and accommodating. Their performance was excellent. The room was clean, but outdated and a bit uncomfortable. The amenities were lacking. The pool area was misrepresented in photos. Not much dining in proximity. Ultimately lodging was, in my opinion, not worth the cost.
