Wrong apartment but got a full refund

We didn't end up staying because this was a different place than was advertised in the photos, it smelled bad and there was animal hair on the sheets. We were told two days before our trip that the address was different than what we had thought it was when we booked. I didn't mind this new location, it was still in the general area that we wanted. But it caused us a whole lot of issues upon arriving from out of the country at 11 p.m. We ended up calling a taxi to stay at a hotel for the night and finding a new place entirely. And we were bummed because we specifically chose this location to be close to friends and ended up at a place downtown. The one good thing (if you can call it that) was the owner gave us a full refund without any issue. I personally would not recommend just based on our experience. The photos of the place we thought we were getting looked nice and maybe it is but who knows.

Disappointed

The unit is up a spiral staircase (not mentioned and no elevator). The smell when you enter the condo is very strong. The washer used only very hot water, and no laundry soap provided. The wash rags were hanging over a rack (we hope they were clean) had four extremely small and old stained towels. Refrigerator, stove, utensils and window seals were dirty. No shampoo, conditioner, soap or dish washer soap. No information or how do use booklet. Couldn’t get the air conditioner to work. We open the windows, but the screens had holes. The mattresses were very thin, you could feel the springs.

Ups and downs

Owner initially took days to answer us but closer to the stay date was extremely responsive and cooperative. The place is old but maintained well. However, we did not get the unit we rented. We were upgraded to the ground floor unit for logistics issues. The owner forgot to turn the heat back on and the air conditioning was still in the window with the plastic insultation on the sides completly riped off. We were able to put our hands outside... Still the host was very helpful and had someone bring up a portable heater for the first few nights (but it stopped working within a few hours). We spent the first 3-4 nights freezing but the heat was turned back on on Monday. The AC unit issue was never fixed. We had access to washer and dryer which worked well. We kept our cats isolated in a room so as to not put cat hair everywhere. After our stay the host accused us of ruining the bed sheet (which we washed) because of the cat hair. We paid $4,000 to stay there. Anyway. The host accused us of having parties with 12 people over every night. We're both in our 40s and stayed there because our condo was flooded. Every day we went to work and I don't even think I have 12 friends. We went to the upstairs guests and they said they were accused of the same thing. She eventually conceeded that it could be the neighboors complaining for nothing or about another building. The parking is in the backyard but the entrance was blocked by ripped garbage bags in front of the door so I never ended up using it. However, parking in the street was easy (just read the signs carefully). The place is conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood but few restaurants close by. Try Umai Sushi though, best sushi! The host accused us of stealing or throwing out towels after our stay was over. Needless to say we did none of those things. Overall we were statisfied with our stay but would have wished the place was heated, the AC removed, more pots and cuttlery would have been useful, more towels as well, and the previous guests shampoos and soap (which had started mildew) were removed. Not being accused of things we didn't do would have been nice as well.

Enjoyed our stay in Montreal very much.

Property is situated in a safe environment , quiet and pleasent to be in. There were some issues when we arrived but our host Joelle resolved them with care for us.
