Hotel is old, buffet is basic

The food quality needs improvement,Breakfast was the worst meal. Cold food and overdone eggs.

Unfortunately 16 years later def not as good as it was 16 years ago when we came for our honeymoon and it was the Occidental. (LOVED IT THEN). Immediately upon arrival the front desk was unfriendly and did not care that i emailed with the hotel a week prior to our arrival requesting a good room as a) it was our honeymoon and b) we stayed here 16 years ago on our honeymoon and was told they would accomodate us. They did absolutely NOTHING for us and was told our room was the only room available and btw it was on 2nd floor facing A PARKING LOT. the only bright spot was the wait staff on beach bringing your drinks were AMAZING... as well as diego the bartender. they were very friendly and accommodating. the food - HORRIBLE. same food every day. nothing changes in the buffets. daily same thing. maybe diff ice cream flavor. but that's about it. Needlesstosay. we will not be recommending this resort to ANYONE.

Restaurants were awful. Not much of a selection for lunch in the buffet. Couldn’t get pool chairs

We recently stayed at Barcelo Resort, and found it to be average overall. While the rooms and beds were comfortable, the buffet food left much to be desired, with repetitive offerings each day. The pool area was pleasant, but the pool bar frequently ran out of essentials like water. Saving a spot by the beach required an early wake-up call, and it was nearly impossible to reserve a spot by the pool. Additionally, obtaining fresh towels was a hassle due to frequent shortages. On a positive note, the resort boasts a fantastic location with nearby restaurants, bars, and a stunning beach. The staff was mostly friendly and helpful. We never ate at the a LA carte restaurants. Drinks were fine by the bar. We wouldn't go back but this may be a good choice for a family who doesn't want to have all meals outside of the resort.
