Castle in the mountains

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, president club
Cons: No free Internet
This was my first time staying at the Banff Springs and it was a great experience. The concierge was extremely helpful in planning activities. I proposed to my girlfriend on this trip and the hotel was key for helping to plan out the details. I highly recommend signing up for the Presidents Club. It's free to sign up and it gives you priority check-in and Free Wireless internet. We were given a complimentary upgrade to a deluxe suite and a bottle of champagne was in our room on arrival. If you get the chance to stay here it is an experience and something everyone should do at least once.

A realy castle!!! An amazing experience!

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, gold floor - free internet and breakfast, service
Staying at the Fairmont Banff Springs is an experience on its own. This unique hotel is often called The Castle of the Rockies and it is easy to understand why. Plus the service is amazing all through the hotel (valet, restaurants, front desk, etc). Perfect location in the mountain with stunning views, only a 20 minute walk (or short drive) from downtown Banff. The Banff Springs is historic hotel, it means: a lot of cachet (stunning lobby and shopping galleries) but it also means that not all rooms are alike (some smaller, some larger; etc). Make sure you plan time to explore the hotel and the grounds around it. The hotel also offers a great gym, a pool and a renowned spa. The restaurants of the hotel are also to recommend (including room delivery, I have tried a few things myself). If you like Sushi, Samurai is the best! Insider’s tip: if you can afford it I would totally recommend booking Fairmont Gold; it is a few more dollars but it includes a lot more: very personalize service, private check-in, access to the lounge on 5th floor with fantastic views (free breakfast, appetizers, and honor bar), free internet…. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as I enjoyed mine!

It is the Banff Springs, after all.

Pros: Quiet
Cons: poor trim and crown finishing, large parking fee, not all rooms have view
3 of us, my wife and I and our 1 year old. We wanted a room with a view and needed a crib. Our first room had a little view of the valley, 2 queen beds and they brought a crib to the room. No king bed, we were told, they only had the 2 x queen bed room. It was a room in the old part of the hotel, but it must have been a million degrees. After 15 minutes of trying to sort the thermostat, a couple maintenance guys knocked on the door and informed us they needed to fix the heat/air con unit and were going to return with tools and ladders. I told them to wait while we change rooms. It is the Banff Springs, after all, and when I'm paying premium prices, I want perfection. I want to look at the valley and check out the hotel, not watch a maintenance guy do anything. We got a new room, a king with the window facing a concrete wall. I found the room very clean, nicely appointed and quite enjoyable. It had wood paneling and crown, but finishing short cuts were all over the place, such as joints in the middle of window trim instead of just one piece of wood, and no caulking in some obvious areas, which shows a rush job and inexperience. Not that I really care, but it is the Banff Springs, after all and I expected perfection. The restaurants were awesome and staff were awesome, and hotel feel was awesome. The only complaint was with our room situation mentioned above. That and the large parking fee is a bit cheesy.

This was the most awesome place I have EVER stayed!!!

Pros: Quiet, staff are amazing, ombiance incredible
The hotel is amazing and picturesque. The room was incredible and we were given a complimentary upgrade and allowed to check in 3 hours early. Every staff member from the front desk to the wait staff to the maids were friendly and so accomodating! It was absolutely the best holiday ever in the most beautiful setting.

Great location. Great hotel with long history.

I will definitely stay here again. Gorgeous view of the mountains and golf course along the river. Friendly staff members. Great food. Couldn't get a room at the Fairmont Lake Louise but this hotel was a great alternative.

My nightmare at this hotel

When we arrived on 8/8/14, my 2 queen bedroom resevation was changed to 1 king bedroom so my 21 old son had to sleep on the bunk bed. Baically we were paying $500/night for refugee camp. The hotel staff were very unresponsive to our request. We had to check out day early to escape the ordeal.

Banff Springs Fairmont

A gorgeous historic building in a gorgeous location.  Service is wonderful.  Views are breath-taking.  However, rooms are quite small and not as large as they look on their website.  Expect a very small room for a very large price.

We will never stay at a Fairmont again. It is highly over rated in quality and service. The rooms are tiny and it takes forever for the hot water to run in the shower, the room service was poor (for our romantic breakfast in bed, they only brought up breakfast for 1 instead of the 2 that we ordered), the restaurants all closed by 930 so we couldn't even eat in one of the restaurants by the time we got back from site seeing, and the hotels in Mexico we stayed at were a lot cleaner. The only thing that was fantastic about this hotel was the Valet staff!
