It is a beautiful property, but is in the process of undergoing renovations. The room we stayed in was in the older section and while it was well maintained, it did show its age, was blandly decorated, and needed more conveniences, such as hooks and luggage racks. The balcony was beautiful and huge(room for a lounge chair or hammock-which would have been awesome had one been out there) with a lovely view of the marina.

All was wonderful! Marco greeted us and checked us in! He was sensational! Staff was terrific! Quincy, in the restaurant, along with the waitresses were spectacular! We felt like family the whole time we were there and we stayed for 2 whole weeks. When it was time to leave, we didn't want to depart from our new friends and environment! God bless you all!

Great beach and centrally located (fairly close to town but felt somewhat secluded). Didn't know that the pool was out of commission when we booked. Not having the pool was disappointing and the fact that ~ 1/3 of the beach area was under construction was inconvenient. It will be very nice when completed.

Beautiful grounds, pool and ocean access... not as dive friendly as other places as there were rinse tanks near shore, but no gear storage that we found with resort being very spread out and far from parking. Not great for divers, but nice for families and snorkeling.

Nice resort. We chose not to do the all inclusive package because we wanted to eat the local flavor. Bonaire has so many amazing restaurants. This resort was close to town, but you almost needed a car to drive into town each night for dinner. About a 5 min drive. Would stay here again. Great diving company onsite too that we used and had amazing dives with.

Great location, good amenities

Pros: Great wait staff, Beach was nice
Cons: Front desk was not well organized, tried to bill us twice for an upgrade
Location: It's a diving destination, dive dive dive
The only problem we had was the air conditioning was not working properly and no one ever came to check it out

The Plaza Resort Provided Fun in the Sun!

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
Cons: Poor breakfast
We arrived at the hotel hot and tired and received a mediocre explanation of hotel services. We toted our heavy bags ourselves over the bridge and up the stairs to our "ocean view" room. I used quotes because, yes you CAN see the ocean, but you first need to look over the bar and the pool. Although the trip started out a little rocky (literally...the beach is man made, I believe), the beautiful weather, amazing scenery and overall friendliness of the island made up for it. If the sink, shower and toilet in our room got fixed, we'd definitely go back.

Pefect Vacation

Pros: toucan dive shop, tim at the coconut crash bar
Perfect vacation – just what we wanted. A trip to Bonaire is perfect if you are looking for a quiet Caribbean getaway with gourmet restaurants, a relatively unspoiled island atmosphere, and great water sports. The Plaza Hotel is perfect. The pool is conveniently located and clean. The beach is perfect and there are always available chairs and the rooms are large. As divers, we could not have asked for a better run and more convenient dive set up – Toucan Divers. Norin, the organization dive manager, and the other dive shop personnel could not have been more welcoming and helpful. We cannot say enough about Jackson and Pursey the dive masters who made our boat dives memorable, easy and above all safe. The dive equipment was new, in good shape and easy to store in the conveniently located lockers. We could roll out of bed…into our gear….and into the water. Then shower off, store our gear and have a great meal. What a deal, a boat dive package with unlimited shore diving. We were able to move between the two to have a wonderful dive experience. The shore dives around the island were something special we did not expect. As for the service, I think Tim at the Coconut Crash bar, says it all. He was always attentive to our every whim. He and the facility manager, Han, visited with us. In our case, a couple of us are Gluten intolerant. Not only did they make us feel at home but also they went shopping for special gluten free items so that there was always something available for us. We must also say the restaurants in Kralendijk, while offering gourmet options were also well versed about gluten intolerance and they too went over the top for us. AB Car rental, while small does a terrific job. They made picking up our car and dropping it off about as easy as a car rental has ever been for me. And I am a long time Hertz #1 Club Gold President’s Circle member. Don’t get me wrong – this is not Aruba with large perfectly manicured international hotel chains (we particularly like the Hyatt in Aruba) and big crowds which we like too. But restaurants like Cactus Blue in Kralendijk will transport you into Jimmy Buffet land without the commercialism. And when you get lost in the back streets and one way alleys in Krelanijk you will come across Wil’s, a gem of a restaurant, run by a wonderful couple including one of whom hails from New York City. Then you will find the tapas restaurant La Guernica (sorry about the reference to a wonderful painting that commemorates a devastating chapter in the history of Spain) that could compete with some of our favorite tapas restaurants just off Las Ramblas in Barcelona in terms of the variety and quality of it’s food while sitting on the veranda watching the sunset. I should also mention that Capriccio’s is wonderful. The special touches were wonderful – a complimentary mimosa before the meal. And they had wonderful gluten free pasta. That’s hard to find in Paris, London and New York City. This is a laid back island. We did not see any obvious spring breakers over the entire spring break week. The Plaza Hotel was the perfect home base. I feel like I was stepping back in time and out of the rat race for a week.

Over-rated, over-priced, terrible service

Pros: all diving including shore at resort
Cons: No free Internet, Poor breakfast, dirty & run down, terrible service
Plaza bills itself as a 5-star resort but really it’s built as a 3-star but is being run as a 1-star. We were disappointed from the dirty rooms to the dirty restaurants to the dirty grounds. The rooms are “recently renovated” but in ours the front door stuck, the handle was broken on the bathroom door, and the AC unit was terribly noisy. The shower was an attempt at being a modern open-air design, which instead left us with puddles on our bathroom floor all the time since they didn’t set up the drainage right. The service is ridiculously bad. It took 7 complaints about the bathroom door and 5 different promises to finally a maintenance man on the 3rd day. The daily cleaning was basically emptying the trash and replacing the whopping 2 towels. When we complained for the 3rd time that the floors weren’t being mopped the housekeeping “supervisor” came and did it herself while glaring at us the whole time. Then they never did it again. Under the chairs and bed you could see garbage & heavy dust. Out in the common areas there was little attention to details and garbage was not uncommon. We were there over New Year’s and after 3 days they still had not cleaned up all the fireworks laying around. There was a huge fountain/gazebo area that was taped off with yellow “caution” tape. Any time it rained the lobby was full of buckets collecting water. They claim to have 3 restaurants but one looked permanently closed, as was casino and one of the bars. The “on-site” car rental agencies have all moved out so don’t believe their resort map. Their high-end restaurant “Tipsy Seagull” is excellent, but the day-to-day one “Banana Tree” is cafeteria quality at resort prices with fast food service – absolutely terrible. The front office management (mostly Dutch) is really good at saying everything is “no problem” but nothing they say gets done - it appears they cannot get the hotel staff (mostly local) to do anything properly. Most of the hotel & restaurant staff are fairly rude and it seems they find tourism an annoyance rather than their lifeblood. If it wasn’t for the diving, which was amazing, this trip would have been thousands of dollars wasted.

NICE PLACE

Basically comfortable place. Faily convenient to downtown and a nearby casino if you don,t mind a little walk. Rent a bike and you can get anywhere easily. Staff apparently did not like to change bed linens eaven when my wife left the litlle card requesting to do so. She caught the maid and helped her change our sheets. I thoiught the reef just off the beach was very good. I could only snorkel but I could spend hours watching the life go by. Resteraunt had a very good breakfast buffett and the luch and dinner menus were good and reasonable for a resort area. Will probably at least try another hotel if we go back to the Isalnd.
