Half decent stay
After reading bad reviews about this place after I made my booking I was a bit worried about what I had booked... but much to my surprise the place was fine, could do with a little update in the rooms but apart from the place it’s self was ideal for my work trip and will continue to stop here!

Clean and tidy
House is tucked away a little, easy to pass by if not looking. Use the village turning or the golf course as reference points. Check in is a little unorthodox, but it does state this clearly in the description. Rooms are clean and spacious. Kitchen is well equipped with plenty of crockery and utensils, and facilities for self-catering. Pool table and table football are great additions for some onsite entertainment! Proximity to the pub (3 mins walk) is fantastic. Nice friendly atmosphere and food is great there.

There was a rather strange process. Actual name of the place is Brockenhurst Hall, not Bodenham House. This made it fun to find. Instructions on how to access the place only came through the day after I'd booked, and as I was on travels and couldn't access email that day, it made for a rather interesting arrival, as the place is unstaffed. I'd describe it as an up-market hostel. Good place though, once you have got the hang of it all.

Shambles-it's not a hotel
There was so much wrong with this booking I'm not sure where to start. Bodenham House is not a hotel & it is conpletely wrong & inappropriate for it to be marketed as such. You simply book a room in a 'house share' with complete strangers. There are no staff or reception & there is no service. None of this was made clear or even apparent before booking. You are given a key code to let yourself in & out but as the housekeeper is only on site for s very limited period, you have to hope everyone remembers to return the front door key to the key safe if you arrive late. The responsibility is on you to call the number on the Expedia booking confirmation (which goes through to the wrong person) & check in & no one seemed to know what was going on. I made 5 calls to establish how I would check in & after leaving 3 messages with no response I finally managed to make contact with someone who was covering for someone else & told me to call back. Finally as I was travelling to Hereford & nervous about having somewhere to stay, I finally spoke to someone who was a manager in Devon who tried to be as helpful as she could but also didn't manage the property. It was a shambles. Trying to find it is also difficult as it's not called Bodenham House!!! I managed to get in, realised it wasn't a hotel & a totally weird set up I would never have booked had I known & left immediately. Luckily I had friends nearby so I stayed with them. Really, do not bother!

this is like a shared house - but it is clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. I met other guests and we had a chat which is an usual in a normal hotel setting. I would definitely recommend. Jesse.

BAD, HORRIBLE PLACE TO STAY.
was terrible, security none existant as hotel door was open when i got there even though no one around, could not find key cupboard and rang housekeeper who didnt seem interested at all and didnt offer to come over. shower only had cold water, flies in lights not cleaned out, dirty walls in bathroom,no tea making equipment in room, shower grout black and mouldy, mirror light in bathroom not working, carpet around sink in bathroom was threadbare, paint work by shower was coming off,, cracks from ceiling to floor in bathroom, decorators paint and brushes left in main foyer, no glass in bathroom for rinsing teeth, blood stain on duvet cover and not ironed, pot pourri very old no smell from it,lots of light switches broken and lights not working in general rooms, picture in bedroom broken, toilet seat kept moving when sat on - very unsafe, no instructions on how to use tv and tv very small.

I enjoyed my stay at Bodenham House but there were a few minor problems that prevented me from giving it a five star recommendation. When I arrived and found my room there was no heating on at all. I eventually found the central heating temperature dial in the entrance hall but it did take several hours for my room to warm up. It is quite chilly at the moment and it would have been a lot more welcoming if the housekeeper had put the heating on for the whole house earlier in the day. Also I found the bed a little uncomfortable and the toilet seat was broken. Its a lovely house but just a little bit more attention to detail would make all the difference.

Es geht besser
Wir kamen um 4 Uhr morgens an, hatten dies telefonisch angekündigt, doch den Code, den wir erhielten, konnten wir nirgendwo eingeben (das Tor, zu dem er passte stand bereits offen), die Haupttür blieb somit verschlossen. Selbst das Klingeln und ein Anruf bei dem Hauskeeper blieben erfolglos! Erst um 7 Uhr morgens war die Tür plötzlich offen. Die Duschwand war nicht richtig sauber (Schimmel), es fehlte ein Föhn und ein Vergrößerungsspiegel, an den Fensterbänken (Niesche) trat Feuchtigkeit ein, den Hauskeeper haben wir, wenn der Mann der Hauskeeper war, nur einmal kurz gesehen. Wir haben nicht gefrühstückt, da wir niemanden fanden, der uns etwas dazu sagen konnte (im Kühlschrank stand nur Butter und Marmelade), die ganze Zeit über haben wir niemanden gesehen, doch hörten wir mitten in der Nacht einen Nachbarn. Da die Zimmertüren genau nebeneinander lagen hörte es sich so an, als würde er unsere Tür aufschließen, was in Anbetracht dessen, das wir vorher niemanden sahen, sehr unheimlich war.
