Good choice for a Getaway

Pros: Clean, Comfortable, Location, Close to most tourist sites.
Cons: Signage to the hotel and parking once you get to Place Bonaventure especially in English.
Location: Metro and Train Station are right there. Hop On Hop Off was a short walk away. Many restaurants and shops in the area. Hotel pickup for most tours.
The hotel entrance seems a little confusing when you arrive but one gets used to it soon after. Self parking is easy to access although it is quite expensive. The room was clean and comfortable and had a mini fridge too. Bathroom supplies were restocked each day and housekeeping took care of our concerns right away when we called. Easy access to the metro and train station. Starbucks and other small eateries are accessible through the hotel itself - no need to walk outside. The Grey Line Hop On Hop Off starting point was a short walk away. The heated pool and hot tub were fun to use and were open till late so that worked out well. The concierge was very pleasant and a big help. Pointed out all the main attractions and gave us wonderful restaurant suggestions. All in all a great choice for our weekend getaway.

Nice room but bad service

Pros: I enjoyed room.
Cons: Service. See above.
I enjoyed my room, but generally got bad or mediocre service. I would enter the bar and restaurant, get seated, and then wait for 5-6 minutes without anyone coming over to ask me what I needed. It was never crowded and there was always a group of 3-5 waiters grouped around the bar, talking. I would then have to get up from the table, interrupt their conversations, and ask if I could order something. This happened 5-6 times. There was a broken towel rack in my room that I asked them to repair, which they did not. I fixed it myself, after two days. The concierge was a little sketchy, sending me to a restaurant on Saturday night, explaining that they did not take reservations. Of course, when I arrived, the first thing they asked for was my reservation. Tacky. Would not go back.

Nice hotel in a great location.

Location: The hotel is a short walk to the Bell Centre, rue St. Catherine and Cresent street. There is access to the underground city from the hotel.
Spent a three day weekend at Hotel Bonaventure. The hotel is conveniently located downtown and within walking distance to Old Montreal. The hotel staff was both friendly and helpful. We arrived at approximately 10:15 in the morning and they afforded us an early checkin, which we greatly appreciated. I would recommend this hotel..

Several negative aspects of my stay: 1) Noisy, rowdy guests several nights during my stay. 2) The thermostat was inoperable between midnight and 6:00 AM - the room was cold at night. 3) Different room rates for the days of my stay even though the offer was $85 per night. 4) The air handler spinning up at 6:00 woke me up every morning. The hotel has completed an attractive renovation. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable with a good work area. Cleaning staff were consistently attentive and thorough.

Staff are not the friendliest

Pros: Breakfast
Cons: Staff
Location: Not much
It was stuffy for me, maybe just because of the language gap, I did not care for Montreal and would not go back. I found Toronto much nicer. It was the Canadian Thanksgiving and McDonalds and Tim Horton were the only places to eat.

overall experience was very pleasi

Location: Religious sites (churches) were close by and the transportation center was directly across the street making it very convenient for travel.
The only negative portion of our stay was the ongoing strike. The hotel staff was doing their best to accommodate my wife and I. We would stay there again if we should ever be in Montreal.

I will not be back

Pros: The bed was comfortable and housekeeping did a good job. Again - room comfort loses points because of the "alien spacecraft-door noise"
Cons: fix your duct work and find new bar staff.
Location: Many hotel options with better locations than here
I stayed at this hotel at one point back in the early 1990's and remembered it as a nice place at the time. Things sure have changed. To start, there is this REALLY weird mechanical noise in the duct work every time the air conditioner comes on and goes off. I'd liken it to the door opening on an alien spacecraft as seen in movies. It happened constantly throughout the 3 nights we were there. We ordered a bottle of wine sitting at the bar on Sunday night probably about 8:30. The bartender opened the bottle and poured the first glass and then was missing for the next 40 minutes. People were coming in and sitting at tables and NO ONE would wait on them. A poor gentleman sitting next to us at the bar had to wait at least 20 minutes for the bartender to notice him. Seriously poor service here in the bar which at the most had 12 people in it at any one time! The pool area is so-so. We used the pool one morning very early. it was OK. The changing area is way too small. When we would look out to the pool area from the lobby as we passed through during the day, the pool area in was in my opinion always overcrowded. The hot tub was always full of people (at least 8 people always - probably way over its maximum capacity.) Probably not the cleanest environment to be in.

Stayed for Rogers Cup

Pros: Pool,garden, location
Cons: Rude waiter in restaurant
Location: Great location! Easy walk to many shops and restaurants. We ran to Griffintown, Atwater market and the top of Mont Royal.
We stayed at the Hotel Bonaventure for 4 nights. It's in a great location and has a beautiful pool area. The gardens were cool... we had a view of ducks outside our window every morning. Beds were comfy and room was clean. Hotel staff was great except for rude waiter in the restaurant Le Bisco - it was an hour before closing time and his night was "already over." Saw him be rude to another table and close the gate on another couple that was checking out the menu. Would definitely return!

Literally just across the street from Via Rail

We wanted a hotel downtown and close to the train station as we were going to the festival. The hotel is very nice however the rooms needs maintenance. There were visible black mildew stains on the caulk in the bathtub/shower, the exhaust fan did not work and there are no vending machines on the floors. If you want bottled water you need to buy it and bring it. One vending machine in the exercise room that needed maintenance. Comfortable bed and room
