good value, but tragically hip
Pros:Free Internet
Cons:Noisy, incompetent staff, no soap
In it's desperate attempt to be hip, The Pearl forgets some of the standard sophistication generally seen in hotels of all quality today.
My first biggest disappointment was the lack of soap in the room for my full 5-day stay. Soap is an amenity that even the scummiest of places provide, but here the staff suggested I go buy my own since they were out.
Secondly, the restaurant staff at the hotel were clueless and clearly untrained in how to seat people. I was told I could not be sat at a two-top being just a single, which is unheard of; then the hostess told me to stand at the host station and wait for a bar stool while other customers swooped into empty stools directly at the bar. I ended up leaving.
Finally, the rooms are nice, but there are some things that have not been updated since the mid-century, such as the shower, plumbing system as a whole, and the a/c (whose loudness is great for drowning out the annoying event noise- movie night is a great idea, but they clearly are not equipped to host so many people and allow people to sit directly against guest room walls, another tribute to the flaky staff).

Amazing value!
We loved staying at the Pearl. I grew up in the Point Loma area and was able to take my husband to some of my favorite spots with a short walk. Point Loma Seafood is only a couple blocks away!.. And definitely worth a visit! The people working the front desk were incredibly helpful, the bar & restaurant are lovely, the pool is fantastic, the decor of the entire place is amazing. Wednesday nights the hotel hosts Dive In Movie Nights once a week and shows classic movies projected over the pool with service from the restaurant and bar available. The movie is definitely worth staying in for! Our only complaints were that a sink leaked (which they fixed our first day there), the road noise from being located right on Rosecrans was a bit loud (but easily covered up with the sound of the fan), and that the room smelled a bit like the pool outside. We will definitely be staying at The Pearl whenever we are in the San Diego area.

Horrible, dirty and noisy!
The staff was less than helpful. I had to ask for toliet paper and the rooms were not clean. The atmosphere of the hotel would be fine if you like to party and be up all night, however I would not recommend this hotel for families. Over priced and awful.
