We traveled as a group of 31 people (7 families) just after Christmas 2023. We had all booked to stay at the Beach section of the resort but when we arrived were told they could not accommodate all of us in that section. 2 families had to go and stay in different areas of the resort which was very frustrating as when we booked we added a note we were all travelling together. Staff were not overly helpful with the situation. A couple families had Premier Rooms which was easy and quick service so I would recommend upgrading to this. Food in buffet was plentiful but cold most of the time. Grill restaurant by the pools was much better. The Steak restaurant had great staff and yummy food. The japanese restaurant in the Mall was great, highly recommend. The wifi is a little spotty around the resort. We used Canada Transfers to get us to and from the hotel which was great.

Everything is overbooked: when we got to the Maya Beach resort we were told we were moved to a different resort on their property even though we had booked and confirmed rooms months earlier. Check in took over 2 hours by the time we sorted it out. We were moved to another resort on property, Maya Caribe which wasn’t too far away but was not what we booked. No upgrades or compensation was given. The check in staff at Maya Beach was very unhelpful during this whole ordeal although other resort staff were very friendly. We also could not book any reservations in any restaurants during our stay and had to eat at the buffet for our meals. The buffet food was very bland and all started tasting the same. The pools are very nice and the beaches and snorkelling were good. We also enjoyed the fitness centre. I would not book here again however.

Very poor customer service, very limited choices for restaurants as the ones we wanted were booked fully and we were not made aware of the reservations process. For such a beautiful resort, the service was not present.. if you just want to go to a buffet place and not get any service then this place is for you. We will not be returning to Barcelo as it was very disappointing..
