Wet Carpet

Pros: Location is great
Cons: Front desk service Room conditions
The carpet in my room was wet for my entire stay and of course I mentioned it to the staff. One person said it may be from an AC unit or something and they'd get it looked at but it was never sorted out. When I say wet, I mean that if you walked on the carpet in socks your socks would be soaked. I had many cold wet socks. Not the entire room was wet but a very large area in the room - about one third. The person who checked me out was awesome but in general, dealing with the front desk wasn't a great experience. I'm a very very easy going guy but being ignored, plus the room conditions, plus the price per night of the stay. No. Nope. No thanks. To be fair... my room is one of many and other than the expensive fish bowl of a room the rest of hotel was very impressive and the location was perfect. Just know that you might get bad room and have to deal with low rate service even though you're guaranteed a high price for the room.

NO HOUSEKEEPING

Pros: LOCATION
Cons: MORE HOUSEKEEPING STAFF
DIDN'T CLEAN OUR ROOM WHILE WE WERE OUT FOR THE DAY, COMPLAINED AND THE HOUSEKEEPING STAFF STATED IT WASN'T HIS FAULT. WHO'S FAULT WAS IT? JUST CALLED TO GET CLEAN CUPS, TOWELS AND MORE COFFEE. TOLD THE FRONT DESK AND RECIEVED A FREE BREAKFAST. WHEN YOU PAY FOR AN EXPENSIVE HOTEL, YOU SHOULD GET GOOD SERVICE!

Perfect downtown location

Pros: Location, Staff, cleanliness, architecture, design
Cons: Free wifi in rooms
Location: Location is perfect if you're on foot or bus/subway. Easily walk to St. Lawrence Market, CN Tower, Rogers Centre, Ripley's Aquarium, Islands Ferry
I walked through the lobby of the Royal York a few years ago while visiting Toronto and was so excited when we booked it for a 4 night stay. It did not disappoint! Staff was very helpful and always available. The location was perfect to explore downtown and within walking distance of many locations. We took the UP Express from Pearson Airport and it dropped us off at Union Station, just across the street- super easy! I would stay here again and again.

Outstanding experience, perfect location

Pros: Location, beds, showers, room size, shopping, dining, front desk service
Cons: Enforce non-smoking policy
Location: Being connected to Union Station, everything is a quick subway ride away.
The good: The ambiance, quality of fixtures, and quality of dining and shopping in and around the hotel is outstanding. The front desk staff is professional, courteous, and accommodating. The location is among the best, being connected to Union Station by way of the PATH. It's a beautiful hotel with an old world meets contemporary feel. The bad: The hotel is supposedly non-smoking, but we stayed during Caribana, which apparently is a great time to indulge in pot smoking. We moved to a room along the perimeter because the halls were so full of smoke. The problem is that the hotel does absolutely nothing to enforce the non-smoking policy, despite exiting the elevators on every floor and walking into a pot cloud. It was obvious just by walking by the rooms from which ones the smoke originated, but the hotel seemed not to care. This part was VERY unfortunate.

Family stay in Toronto

Fabulous hotel. Incredible decor and decorrations. All the staff are superb, from cleaning staff to front desk and concierge to bellmen and valets. Prompt, courteous, always with a smile and greeting. Not the cheapest hotel but the Royal York and its staff are worth every penny.
