On the border of Vancouver's historic Gastown, a quick walk away from Chinatown and Vancouver's downtown core. Walk out the front door of the building and to your left you'll see the Millennium Gate. To your right you'll see Downtown Vancouver. Right next door, you will be able to experience Vancouver's unique Pacific West Coast culture at the Urban Aboriginal Fair Trade Gallery where you will find incredible art work done by local Salish First Nations.
Gastown was Vancouver's original downtown core and is named after "Gassy" Jack Deighton, a Yorkshire sailor who arrived in 1867 and opened the city's first saloon. Now Gastown's old warehouses are a mix of hip boutiques, bars and restaurants.
The suite is located in the heart of Downtown Vancouver, near many of the city's historical sites and major tourist attractions.
The world-renowned Stanley Park is only a 15 minute bus ride (or 30 minute walk) away, while Chinatown's main gate and the old historical region of Gastown are literally next door. The city's two major stadiums, GM Place and Rogers Arena are very close by, as is the Vancouver Convention Center, which is 15 minutes walk, or a 5 minute taxi-ride away.
Also, like many parts of Downtown Vancouver, this is a socio-economically diverse neighbourhood as a result of social housing initiatives and social services to help people facing substance abuse problems. It is quite safe, but the high population of visible homeless is something many first time visitors to Vancouver are surprised by and should be taken into account.
