Room AC so old, could not see any of the control functions. No water in Hotel when we arrived. Pool closed due to unsafe conditions of hotel around pool. Homeless all over the neighborhood around hotel. Parking fee very high and not disclosed on website.

Good location at the end/beginning of Waikiki proper. If you want to be in the middle of the action, this is not for you. The desk staff is singularly unhelpful, ignores you, and are on their phones. They usually only have one staff member for checkins or questions. Once you accept that people are not friendly or helpful, the place can grow on you...a littler. You are on your own...

What we liked: The price per night is the best in Waikiki and hotel is nicely located. Decorated that 50's - 60's Tiki style you love to see in Hawaii. Great convenience having car rental, food, laundry and parking all on site. Roof Pool was awesome. Desk Staff were friendly and always able to help. A++. BEST Muffins you'll ever eat sold at Maleko breakfast shop on site. We were addicted to their Pineapple/Coconut muffins. Towels and beds freshened daily and the soap for the showers is AWESOME smelling. I wish it were a brand available in the states. What we didn't like: 1 of the two rooms we rented was in excellent condition with modern features but the other room was not in good condition. Old & Shabby. Tub had seen better days, carpets needed vacuuming and bathroom walls had grit built up in the corners. Cleaning staff needs to be trained better. Rooms did have a dorm fridge which was a nice feature. To me it seems they are in the middle of updating all their old rooms and we just happened to get one of the rooms that wasn't remodeled yet. Despite the condition of that one room, all the PLUSSES far far outweigh the lone minus. We plan to come back to Oahu and Hawaiian Monarch will be our hotel of choice.

The hotel experience was ok. The hotel had a nice pool and hot tub. The room had old carpet the staff cleaned the best they could. The tub and shower never seemed to get cleaned. Some staff was friendly while other staff did not seem to really care about their job. The hotel is about a 20 min walk to the Waikiki beach. There is a lot of interesting facilities within the hotel other than the pool and hot tub such as a bar, few restaurants and gift shops. The bar has a very affordable happy hour from 5pm to 6pm. Some other facilities were not explored such as the exercise room. Overall I had a good time.

Nice location, ugly room.

Location was fine. Walking distance to almost everything local. Including beach. Sucks parking is $25 a night. We found parking coupl blocks away or on the Ala Wai. But street parking is almost impossible after a certain time. Room was almost like a run down apartment. Rug was stained. Sheets on bed had some stains. Slow response from hotel when requesting extra towels/tissue. Tub looked like someone had spilled pain/chaulk all inside. Definitely a lower end hotel.

Miserable filth-hole with horrible staff- GARBAGE!

Pros: NOTHING.
Cons: EVERYTHING.
Location: Doesn't matter. Sleeping in a car like a homeless person is better than staying in this hole.
TOTAL TRAP!!! Reviews did not reflect reality. No parking- had to pay to park and this was not disclosed. "Front desk" appeared to be an afterthought and was not easy to find. Staff was unfriendly and unhelpful. Seemed put out that we were bothering them. The room was filthy- completely disgusting. We do not require high quality, and were only looking for a clean room with a bed to sleep in. The bed was no more comfortable than a box spring. The carpet looked as though it hadn't been cleaned in decades. The smell in the room was offensive. It smelled of unclean. We contacted the front desk and explained that we were unhappy with the room. They explained that they would not refund, but could let us check out another room, however, they did not have any other rooms available, and still were unwilling to refund us for the room. It was clear that this was a regular scenario for them, and obvious that they prey on tourists who have no way to research their facility beyond the reviews online. The reviews we saw were 4.7 out of 5. It's obvious they stacked that with their own reviews. There is no way they could have those numbers with the facilities provided. This place is a dive. We chose to sleep in our rental car over the room, even having paid for the room and not provided a refund. There is no way to emphasize enough how unhappy we are with this experience.

expectations

Pros: The view from the window
Cons: A shampoo of the rug would be great. Having a nice flat screen tv in the room to relax to would be an upgrade. A real Coffee Maker with real cream
Location: You'll have to see it. It's Hawaii how can you not see the beauty in the island.
Rug was so dirty couldn't tell what color it was; walking around in the room without footwear not a good idea. Tiny coffee pot so if you are a coffee drinker you'll end up buying coffee from an outside business. The tv was a old box magnavox if you can remember those back breakers but it was a small 17inch. The view outside the window was the best part of the entire experience. If you are looking for a place without expectations and you just want to come in for sleep and get up and go then this hotel will do.
