Full-Day Excursion to the El Tatio Geysers

by Gray Line Chile Duration 7h 30m Free cancellation available No booking or credit card fees
per adult Price is C$64

Discover one of the highest-elevation geyser fields in the world. Watch in awe as more than 100 geysers huff and puff around you, shooting streams of water and gas into the frigid air on this trip to the third-largest geyser field in the world.

The El Tatio Geyser Field stands just over 14,000 feet above sea level in the Andes Mountains of northern Chile and getting there is half the fun. You’ll travel up windy scenic mountain roads surrounded by snow-covered active and dormant volcanic peaks along the way. Magma beneath the surface acts to heat an underground source of water resulting in an explosive release of pressure.

As you walk through the fields, steam rising all around, the ethereal environment will have you feeling like you’re on another planet. The local animal life of the geyser field is awe-inspiring as well, demonstrating that beauty can thrive even in such harsh conditions. Geyser field runoff empties into emerald green, geothermal ponds and small streams that trickle down towards lower altitudes. A trip to the third largest geyser field in the world is an experience you won’t soon forget.

Our tour begins at 05:00 AM in winter and at 4:30 AM in summer, with picking up all passengers from their hotels taking about 30 minutes. Travel a total of 99 km approximately to the first stop at the Geysers. Arriving at dawn to see a geothermal show with the volcanoes of the Andes. Then, head to the thermal pool that is within the geothermal field, where you can enjoy a fun bath with water from the same geysers with a temperature approx. of 30C. When you return, stop by the Putana's wetlands and Machuca, a village located at 4,000 meters with adobe houses and where you can find and enjoy a rich flame kebab meat and/or goat cheese patties, prepared by the Atacama community of Machuca. Then, you'll be returning to the town of San Pedro de Atacama at approximately 12:00 PM.

A must tour! Our guide (Vivi) and driver (Luis) were the best. She was very informative and passionate. She took awesome pictures. Luis prepared our breakfast while we saw the geysers and the presentation and breakfast were great. I would do this tour again.
