Description

Browse the temples of one of the largest Mayan cities of the Classic Period: Coba.

If you are bold enough to climb the highest pyramid of the Mayan Riviera, the reward will be one of the most stunning panoramas in the area. With over 40 meters high, Nohoch Mul, which in Mayan means “big hill”, it’s the largest pyramid in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Coba is translated into Spanish as “water stirred by wind”. Between 400 and 1100 AD, it was one of the largest cities in the Classic Maya period, reaching accommodate about 50,000 inhabitants. One of the main reasons it was settled there were two small lakes supplying water to the population.

Arriving at the place around 8.30 am you will be able to enjoy the place without the crowd. Walk in the shadow of the treetops, wrapped in the sounds and the green of the jungle.

It’s also noticeable that you can get to the pyramid either walking or on a bycicle while you are learning about the fantastic history of this plase with the guide.

To fight the heat, on the way back, refresh at the pristine waters of the sinkhole (cenote) Choo Há. This cenote is perfect for diving enthusiasts, you’ll be able to do snorkelling in its circular interior. Its 10 meters depth and its natural illumination makes it a spectacular water view.

At the end, enjoy of a buffet lunch with some regional dishes and let's do the way back to Cancun.

Don’t think that “Tulum Hotel Pickup” means anything other than “get yourself to a surprise location 20 minutes from the Tulum Hotel Zone.” The 5:30 AM tour actually picks up at 8:00 AM IN a Tulum putting you at Cobá around 10:00. This trip was advertised as being early but really wasn’t. The pace of the tour at Cobá was PAINFULLY slow. The guide, though well intentioned, got stuck answering questions that went on and on from patrons who obviously already knew the answers to their questions. The rest of the group was left to wait in the heat. The highlight of the trip was the heavily air conditioned bus that was actually pretty awesome. If you take this tour, I would recommend the super early tour that probably gets you at Cobá at 7:00 or 8:00.

The tour to coba was awesome and the guide was fantastic. It didn't state in the tour that we were doing a stop at a connote so we didn't have a swimming suit or towel. We would have loved to have gone swimming
