Ad Gefrin Anglo-Saxon Museum and Whisky Distillery invites you with a warm welcome to enjoy the riches of Northumbria past and present. Explore the re-imagined Great Hall of the 7th-century court of the kings and queens of Northumbria, which tells the stories of those who inhabited it, and the museum, which showcases some of the finest examples of the creativity, artisanship and culture of Northumbria’s Golden Age. Enjoy intimate guided tours of the distillery, following the journey of some of the finest locally grown barley as it is distilled into the first Northumbrian English Single Malt Whisky, and multi-sensory tastings of the spirits themselves. A timeless hospitality underpins it all.
Finish a visit with a glass of something special on the terrace or around the fire, or by sharing a meal from a choice of menus from our bistro – with often familiar dishes and local favourites, presented in new ways for the sheer love of food from Northumberland. Then just before you go, nip into our shop to find unusual gifts from some of the finest designer makers of Northumbria and more unusual hand-crafted and inspiring items from wider afield so that you can take a memento of your visit home with you – as well as a bottle of whisky!
