What you can expect

On your private tour, see the prominent sights of Luang Prabang which range from the National Museum, formerly the Royal Palace, to many temples such as Wat Sene, Wat Xieng Thong, Wat Aham, and Wat Wisunarat. Take in the view from Mount Phou Si and bargain hunt at the night market.

First, follow your guide to the charming Lao-French-style building of the former Royal Palace that is now the National Museum. After you climb the marble Italian steps into the entry hall, browse the numerous exhibits that feature centuries-old Khamu metal drums and collections of small Buddhas.

See the many beautiful temples in Luang Prabang such as Wat Sene, covered in yellow and red tiles, Wat Xieng Thong with roofs that sweep low to the ground, and Wat Wisunarat with a lotus-shaped stupa. Admire Wat Aham and its statues of gods from the Hindu Ramayana, as well as Wat Mai with intricate gold stenciling on its pillars.

After a well-deserved lunch and time off your feet, climb Mount Phou Si for a view of the sunset against the Mekong River and get a look at the sacred, gilded stupa at Wat Chom Si. Wrap up your excursion at the exciting night market that features products such as chess games in ornamental stone, silk scarves, embroidery, sculptures, replicas of opium pipes, and portrayals of Buddha in nearly all imaginable forms.
