What you can expect

On your full-day tour, see the temples of Luang Prabang, the mystical Pak Ou Caves filled with hundreds of Buddha statues, and Ban Xang Hai, the popular rice winemaking village. Stop by the weaving village of Ban Phanom for a look at the beautiful, locally produced silk and cotton textiles.

Your excursion begins as you visit prominent temples in Luang Prabang. Stop at one of the city's oldest temples, Wat Sene, which is covered in red and yellow tiles in the modern Thai fashion, and then admire classic Laotian architecture at Wat Xieng Thong with a roof that sweeps low to the ground.

Next, board a boat on the Mekong River and cruise upstream. Take in the scenic countryside and stop by the village of Ban Xang Hai or “Whisky Village.” Marvel at the many bottles of rice wine—some of which contain snakes, scorpions, or centipedes—and if you dare, buy a sample to try a taste. Then take a break for a delicious lunch at a local restaurant before you see the Pak Ou Caves.

Explore the upper and lower caves of Pak Ou that contain thousands of gold lacquered and wooden Buddhas of various shapes and sizes left by locals hundreds of years ago. At your last stop, the town of Ban Phanom, admire the hardworking weavers who produce beautiful silk and cotton textiles with many different coloured threads to create a shimmering effect.
