What you can expect

Witness the incredible archaeological site of Cacaxtla, a marvellous palace full of vibrant Mayan murals. Afterwards, tour the city of Tlaxcala, the capital of the Mexican state of the same name, to see and learn about the region's fascinating colonial history.

Arrive at Cacaxtla, a partially-excavated Mayan palace that served as the ancient capital of the region, inhabited by the Olmeca-Xicalanca people. The site covers about 180,000 square feet (54,864 m), with only part of the site fully excavated. The residential area is made up of a labyrinth of rooms, patios, and passageways built around 2 main plazas oriented on a north-south axis. Frescoes are found throughout the palace site. The best preserved are in rooms adjoining the North Plaza, which was the focus of Cacaxtla's ritual life.

Afterwards, continue to Tlaxcala, the capital of the state of the same name. Visit the main plaza and the Mayor's Palace, featuring incredible Spanish colonial murals.
