Fantastic long weekend in the Douro valley

Fantastic stay with My Mum for a special birthday. The location, accommodation, food options, walks from the property and swimming pool were all outstanding. The best bit however was the hosting provided by Daniel and Paulo. Immediately made to feel at home with friendly characters and always on hand to help with any queries or requests. I would return happily!

This place understands what hospitality is. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed as if it was our home. Our bags were taken to our room and we had a welcome drink on the terrace overlooking the spectacular Douro Valley. We joined other guests for a family style meal and enjoyed getting to know people from many different countries. Amazing place to relax, appreciate the area, with a wonderful team to help with questions and make the visit super comfortable.

Casa de Casal de Loivos is a magnificent property with glorious views, comfortable rooms and excellent service. Bernardo's family has owned the property for generations and both he and the staff take great pride in taking care of their guests. We took long walks through the vineyards, did a wine and olive oil tasting and enjoyed dinner with the other guests. Big thank you to Daniel who brightened every day with his jovial personality and to Bernardo for his excellent suggestions of things to do in Porto. This was the favorite stop of our weeklong visit to Portugal.

Wonderful location and warmest of welcomes

We had a wonderful two nights here. The warmest of welcomes and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. It is wonderfully located for a quiet trip enjoying the spectacular views and outdoor space & pool. The room was basically appointed but comfortable and had a/c. Meals were delicious and it was a very different experience to sit around the table with other guests from around the world. Great wine and port selection too

The staff were very accommodating and helpful. The views from the back of the property are most incredible, leaving the front of the hotel very non-descript. The prepared dinners were great, especially for those of us who did not want to head back down into Pinhao. The breakfast was wonderful, although they lacked eggs. The only real negative is how to get to the property and, less so, the parking. The directions from Pinhao do not reflect the steepness and the very narrow streets that you have to traverse. Finding the actual hotel was quite frustrating.

Our stay at Casa de Casal de Loivos exceeded all our expectations—and I say that in spite of some windy, rainy days! Bernardo was so gracious and helpful. Before we even arrived he was letting us know about road closures and provided directions for the best route. Upon arrival, our bags were brought in for us and he even volunteered to park our car. The complementary snack and wine were delicious and enjoyed in front of a cozy fireplace. Bernardo provided information for hiking, port and wine tastings and restaurants. They provided breakfast and we also chose to have the family style dinner in their dinning room two evenings—it was delicious and the service was impeccable. The common areas and the rooms were spotless and the beds and bedding so comfortable. The staff was always friendly and courteous. As you can tell, we would highly recommend staying at Casa de Casal Loivos! Thank you Bernardo for making our stay so memorable.

One cannot get a better view of the valley from any other place. Bernado, owner, is a great host and will provide great service and hospitality. The dinner they offer was very special, and took place in a private dining room..One cannot get better service in any 5 star hotel. Breakfast included was very good.

This is a magnificent property with majestic views and a wonderful host who cares deeply about his guests happiness and accommodates any request to the best of his ability. The property is charming and historic and overlooks an incredible valley and view of the Douro river. Highly recommended and hope to return one day !

This is a family run business. The Casa is treated with love and it's evident from the warm welcome from Bernardo to the communal meal and attention to detail. We only wish that we could have stayed longer.
