The location of this lovely cottage is sublime. A quintessential fishermanâs cottage, the property has been restored to provide luxury, contemporary and tastefully furnished, self-catering accommodation yet still maintaining some of the character within a unique setting. There has been a fishermanâs cottage on this location since the 16th-century and the original building fell into disrepair and was demolished in 1908 and not rebuilt until 1918 after the Great War. The family who built the new fishermanâs cottage were from St Andrews, hence the name. The old hooks where the fishing nets were hung to dry are still on the wall in the back garden, which is now a sunny courtyard and ideal for enjoying the summer sun with a glass of wine. The old wash house still has the old sink and is great for cleaning sports equipment or rinsing the sand off your buckets and spades. Within the cottage you will find it is beautifully presented with much thought, care and attention to the finer details. Both spacious double bedrooms are en-suite, and on the ground floor there is also a large storage cupboard to store your golf equipment. The open plan living space on the first floor captures the amazing sea views to enable guests to enjoy watching the fishing boats entering and leaving the picturesque harbour, and the fish market in the morning where the local fishermen sell their catch. If fish is on your menu you can purchase freshly caught fish and prepare that special meal in the well-equipped kitchen.
We had a great holiday. St Andrew's is lovely: warm, cosy, comfortable, very well-equipped and clean, and its location across the road from the harbour is ideal for watching the sunrise, the weather, and boats coming in and out. It was surprisingly quiet and we hardly heard cars, boats or people. There is no designated parking but it was easy to park on the street immediately outside the cottage. We found more than enough places to visit each day, including a fabulous day at the V&A (Dundee) and enjoyed local coastal strolls. Our only suggestion for improvement would be to relocate the TV, which is on a wall behind the seating area; you can only watch in comfort from the dining table. Apart from this, everything was great and we'd highly recommend.
Pittenweem is lovely fishing village that is handy for the Fife Coastal path as well as getting to St Andrews, Dundee, Perth and Edinburgh, even the Kelpies are only an hour away. The house itself was very clean and the beds are comfortable, something you need when you get to a certain age. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine and a couple of the Scottish chocolate cakes. Dishwasher tablets, pods for the washing machine and even pods for the Nespresso coffee machine were provided. There are plenty of crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils, should you want to do your own cooking. If you want to eat out, we can highly recommend The Bank Hotel in Anstruther, the next town along, takes about 20 mins to walk or you can get the bus, or for that special meal, The Dory Bistro, next door has oysters to die for. We would certainly come here again. Only two slight negatives, the tumble dryer did not work and there were no instructions left for dealing with the rubbish or the bedding at the end of the stay.
We thoroughly enjoyed our short break at this great house in Pittenweem. The house is warm, comfortable and very well equipped. The first floor lounge gives great views over the harbour where thereâs always some activity. Well placed for the Fife coastal path as well as visiting other places in this lovely corner of Fife.
