Bathroom: Bath, Toilet. Oil central heating and electricity (ÂŁ250pw Oct-Apr), bed linen, Wi-Fi and fuel for open fire included. Games room with table tennis. Large garden with picnic benches. Private parking for 10 cars. No smoking. Please note: There is a moat in the garden. This property has a security deposit of ÂŁ200.. Dating mainly from the 17th century, with some parts much older, this fine spacious, moated manor house, with its own large garden, was formerly owned by the Dukes of Bolton and the Earl of Sandwich. Now part of an educational complex, it has been modernised, yet retains its character and charm and serves as a memorable venue for large family and group re-unions. Boasting eleven bedrooms (8 with en-suite facilities), an elegant drawing room with open fire, a dining room and a games room, it has its own garden. Nestling below the Wessex Ridgeway, and close to the spectacular Dorset coastline, Hooke Court is just 10œ miles from West Bay (formerly Bridport Harbour), and is within easy reach of both pebbly Chesil Beach and Golden Cap cliff. Looking back further into the past than Hardyâs timeless âWessexâ, there are traces of Roman and pre-Roman culture ready to be explored. With Maiden Castle, Poundbury, Maumbury Rings and Cerne Abbas â home to the well-endowed Cerne Giant cut into a steep chalk hillside, well worth visiting. For days out, a pilgrimage to Hardyâs birthplace (NT), his school, his home and Stinsford Church, where his heart is buried, is a rewarding experience. Whilst locally, the district surrounding Beaminster has its own rich heritage and is home to a notable Tudor manor house - Mapperton Gardens, the main location for the BBCâs Tom Jones. Close by is Eggardonâs hill fort, 3 nature reserves, fishing, walking and sailing. Roman town of Dorchester (with weekly market), 13 miles. Golf course at Crewkerne. Shops and pubs
3œ miles.

Huge property which the kids loved playing around in. Lots to do as well - lots of historical artefacts and info to read, a couple of small parks around the grounds, a games room with table tennis, fishing. The house itself was warm and plenty of space in the front room for our group of 15 and with an open fire with wood and fire lighters etc provided. Plenty of amenities with en-suites in almost every room. Only issue was the showers which were intermittently cold. However the site manager lives nearby and was on hand when needed to restore the hot water. Great place for a large group holiday

An excellent holiday with a great house, facilities and staff (especially one of the groundsmen who always put a smile on our faces when we talked to him). Went with a large group of 23 people and had a great time. Very good for large family/social gatherings as long as they are self contained. Due to the nature of the setup of the grounds with a lot of guests in close proximity to each other, it is less than ideal if you will be creating a bit of noise in your group. Overall, a great stay and would recommend!

Historically interesting, plentiful crockery, spacious corridors, lounge & dining room, idyllic setting, 8 bathrooms, games room, massive grounds, lake, kayaking, adventure playground, pigs, sheep & fish in the 'ditch' ie the moat & easy parking. The downsides:- 1. Intermittent WiFi, a problem in Dorset owing to Govt's lack of investment not the owners'. 2. Dishwasher hit & miss results due to limescale & probably needed a good clean of filters 3. Washing machine ditto, dryer didn't work. 4. Last one to shower in morning didn't have enough hot water. The owners were really helpful though.

A strategically located, quaint, gem of a place. Not many other people booked into surrounding properties when we went during the Easter break. Enjoyed the walks and particularly playing cricket!

Fantastic location for a group holiday, and very reasonable price per person if you get the full number in. The only issue is that the element blew on the cooker the first evening, and was not repaired whilst we were there for the rest of the week. Overall a great place to stay.
