Great Hotel, but Manager Charlie Was Extremely Rud

We have stayed at this hotel multiple times and always enjoyed it. The service is excellent, the rooms are comfortable, and the atmosphere is pleasant. However, this time, we were very disappointed with the pool—especially the behavior of the manager, Charlie. When we arrived with our children, the pool area was freezing. The emergency exit door, right next to the lounge chairs, was wide open, letting in a strong draft. It was propped open with an electrical reel. I closed it, but the lifeguard said it was per the manager’s instructions. When I asked to speak with him, a young man in a tracksuit approached and rudely said, "What do you want?", spoken in a tone as if he was the most important person there. Instead of apologizing, he insisted the door must stay open for ventilation, even though it was 7°C (44°F) and windy outside. If the ventilation system isn’t working, the pool should be temporarily closed, not left open to freezing drafts. We had to rush our kids out and dry them quickly to keep them from getting sick. We understand technical issues happen, but staff attitude matters. Charlie’s rude and unprofessional behavior left a very negative impression.

Great hotel but slow restaurant service

Reception - great service but no card machine at the desk. Restaurant - awful service but good food, every table around us given a menu with offers, which we weren’t offered. Ordered drinks at the bar and others were served before me when I was there first and service was slow. Room - clean room, great amenities but very noisy because there was a young lacrosse team that run the corridors all night.

Trying to rely on tech and failing

My first room had been smoked in so I asked to be moved. The employee didn’t take my word for it and instead escorted me to check. The room service took an hour and forgot my drinks, and two hours later I asked for them to be cancelled when they still hadn’t arrived. I got double charged for parking, and there was building work directly outside my room. A poor experience made worse by the fact that I couldn’t speak to the team as there was no phone and web chat you are forced to use takes a stupidly long time to get a response. Even on departure I couldn’t get a refund sorted as the staff have to email centrally, and the central email team are yet to respond.

There are a number of issues: 1. There is a bird infestation on the ledge above our room window meaning there is bird waste all over the window itself and ledge. We cannot have the window open for air because of the noise from the birds. 2. I have paid for my room via a third party website but my card has still been charged - I.e., the hotel have taken payment for something that has already been paid for. 3. Car parking is terrible. The car park is rammed with people using the gym facilities. I was told to leave my car “where I could” and go back and move it to hotel car park after 8/9pm for overnight car parking. Travelling on my own with two children this was not an option.

Great for family stay.

Room was comfy, spacious and clean. All staff were happy to help. Family swim was extended for school holidays too which was great. Room service was good and came quickly.

Loved it!

Room was so cosy, swimming and steam/sauna all clean and to temperature. Afterwards we had some superbly cooked pub grub with good service. Breakfast excellent. Thanks for a great stay
