Great Conference at the Ramada

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, great staff, comfy beds
I just wanted to take some time to talk about the conference that the Ramada hosted for my organization this weekend. As a first time organizer I really appreciated the help that Colleen and Alison provided me throughout the months leading up to the conference. They did a great job explaining options and working to maximize my budget. Come the conference, the staff were super helpful. David did a great job managing the catering staff, and Mylene was amazing to deal with regarding rooming lists. The hotel rooms are newly renovated with comfy beds, which my delegates loved. The food was great too. Our banquet dinner was one of the best I've ever had! These guy take it up a level with their service. Beautiful displays and great great great staff!!! Thanks!

Convenient downtown location but...

Pros: See above.
Cons: See above.
Location: See above.
Hotel was well maintained and has an excellent location central to downtown activities. However, the staff positioned me knowingly next to party animals that made so much noise that I had to move to another room after enduring it for one night. Since there was no improvement the second night, it forced a move to circumvent an ugly confrontation with other guests. This was very poor service and could easily have been avoided with better foresight by the staff. To their credit, they did relocate me without fuss, however they once again did me a great disservice by moving me to a much worse room, a significant downgrade. After I expressed my displeasure they eventually upgraded me to a better room and even helped me with the move. Another hidden surprise baked into the hotel is that parking is not included. Parking is extra and costs up to $25 a day. This adds up if you are staying a few days. A nasty surprise. Overall, although the hotel has a convenient location and is clean, the staff demonstrated very poor customer care and there were hidden costs that were not appreciated.

Travelocity was key in booking this unbelievable deal.

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, flat panel tv, quality soaps
The room was 4 star, current in design, clean, classy finishes, in heart of downtown Calgary, across from Canadian Place! We were walking distance to everything! We entered underground parking where our car was whisked away, visible money left in console, and was still there upon checkout! The room was gorgeous as was bathroom and the elevator up was all gorgeous glass and tile! The hallways clean and crisp! Superb from entering building to leaving building!

Not for sleeping

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet
Cons: Noisy, callous management
Room and hotel are within standards. However, there was a whole party of customers who spent most of the night speaking loudly in the corridors, chasing their giggling girl friends and knocking at all doors. Impossible to sleep, had to get up several time thinking someone was knocking at my door. The front desk did nothing to have this stop. On the morning the manager simply said that groups regularly came to party and mate, and that there was nothing he would be doing against it because they were valued customers. If you go there to party and for group mating you will have a great time, if you simply want to sleep before an important business day go elsewhere, the management has clearly chosen which business it prefers and won't care about regular travelers.

OK for a business trip

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet
The hotel is certainly dated but in good repair. The pool is outdoors and pretty useless except in the heat of summer (which is not that long in Calgary). Staff is nice and the in-hotel restaurant is sufficient. There is a very good selection of close restaurants. Public transportation is readily available close to the hotel. I will stay here again but it would be nice if the pool and work out facilities could be updated. Covering the pool would be great as well as adding a hottub for soaking after a long day at the office.

Getting to any downtown hotel from airport costs $30-40, but had shuttle arranged for return trip. Rooms not fancy but clean, adequate. Has free internet access. Close to downtown, can walk to most places and around the block is the train which is free for the downtown strip. Reception desk people not as helpful as could be, but not rude. I did not use room service but did use the 24 hour-open gym, which was again nothing fancy but all I wanted was a treadmill anyway. In summary, this is not the Four Seasons, but a clean hotel with good people that will meet your basic needs.

Basic amenities

Convenient location and good room service menu. This hotel needs an indoor whirlpool and business centre. Because it was winter, it was cold and boring at night mid-week. The restaurant was closed in the evening when I got back at 8 p.m. The pub was shabby! The swimming pool was closed. The public computer terminal was in the corridor near the lobby - too public, no printing facilities and in this day and age, shocking that we have to pay $1 for 10 minutes of internet use in a hotel. Reception wasn't too friendly but David the room service guy was great!

Great Location

My husband and I were in Calgary for a conference for 5 days. We loved the location of this hotel because it's right downtown. The train stops a block away and everything else is close by. The Red Fox Bar downstairs is a nice place to relax in the evening... lots of really nice people and the fries with gravy was good! The breakfast in the restaurant was pretty good and reasonably priced. The room was pretty clean. The front desk people were not the friendliest.
