This characterful, listed terraced holiday cottage is set in the picturesque centre of a preservation area of the village of Calstock This is a south facing village, on the Cornish bank of the river Tamar near to the National Trust property, Cotehele and recently featured in BBC I series Beyond Paradise. The Tamar Valley is renowned as an Area of Outstanding Beauty, within easy reach of the south Cornish (and north) coast, Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor and many other attractions, including The Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan. Other local Beyond Paradise locations include Port Eliot, and the seaside village of Looe. There is good walking nearby and the village has a station with a direct train to Plymouth and other villages. Tavistock and Callington are 6 miles away and both have a selection of shops and other amenities, whilst a small convenience store can be found in Gunnislake, 2œ miles. In Calstock itself, there is a cafe, which offers vegetarian and vegan options, two pubs and an Italian ice cream parlour, an Arts theatre an Art gallery and craft shop and a vibrant local community. Shop 2œ miles, pub 50 yards.
The property is located a two minute walk from the Tamar River and the magnificent structure of the rail viaduct. The village has no facilities, apart from a pub. Shops are a very short drive to Gunislake or a tad further to Tavistock.
The accommodation is homely and well cared for. Storage heaters are a bit of a pain, so be wise to ensure they are set right as soon as you get there for those winter stays. There is a wood burner which is a great addition and marvellous at keeping the living room warm and snug.
The bedrooms are great, the beds comfortable with plenty of linens. The bathroom is very functional, albeit a bit outdated. The bath itself is a small one, so not able to stretch out for any long soaks if you are over five feet tall. The kitchen is generally pretty good. The cooker is slow to heat anything, but gets there eventually.
Overall, a pleasant stay at a very good price, in a great area for walks and exploring the beautiful countryside North Cornwall has to offer.
Cosy dwelling, in the centre of the village, walking distance from two pubs. This two bed cottage is big enough for a family of five to live comfortably and is well equipped. Beds are comfy, sofas deep and the parking is very close.
A great base for exploring the local area from Plymouth to dartmoor and beyond but donât miss the local walks and hidden attractions of the village. the local pottery is a treasure,
A fine example of beautiful cornwallâŠ
