With the exception of the bar / lounge area when you come in, it's quite a tired hotel that could do with a refresh. Rooms have very little storage for clothes, just a rail, and feel empty. Reception often unmanned and no bell or buzzer so can be quite a wait for anyone - presumably they're either temporarily or permanently running on a small staff. Food in the restaurant is not great and the service is slow. The tables are left uncleared at breakfast, so you just find one that no one has used yet. Comfy bed and powerful shower the positives, and reasonably priced but generally wouldn't recommend.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was comfortable and clean. I would have liked more pillows is my only criticism. We only stayed one night and we didn't eat but from our short stay I would recommend the Mercure.

A disappointing stay

Carpark was said to be well lit. It isn’t. It was v dark with small spaces and didn’t feel safe walking through it solo. There was a £10 per night charge for using it. Ordered room service- pizza. Arrived cold. I asked for a glass for the water I ordered. The glass came and was filthy. The room was cold as heating and AC operated centrally. Took 4 calls to Reception before someone answered to get them to turn the room heating on. I won’t return.

The whole hotel had a rather odd musty smell. Opening our bedroom window didn’t help. It all seemed rather tired. Our bed was not comfortable, there were 3 pillows, 1 was lumpy, 1 felt as though it was filled with pebbles and the 3rd one was virtually flat. The one positive was a good shower and good lighting in the bathroom. We only stayed one night out of the two booked and paid for, mainly because it was just very, very dreary and depressing. £170.50 down the drain but we just didn’t want to spend another night there. A shame because its location is very good for us.
