PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE. This hotel is the worst I have ever stayed in within the UK. The room smelt musty and has not seen a lick of paint for decades. There were holes in the walls; damaged, worn carpets and rusty pipes. The door lock was loose as it was missing some screws. But the worst part was MOUSE DROPPINGS on the table where the drinking glasses are kept, and on the single bed and the towels which were in a basket on the floor. This happened overnight as we were sleeping. Donât expect a âCastle Viewâ if you are put in the annexe at the end of the garden. The only view you get is a fence. The walls are paper thin, and you can hear every movement from the room upstairs including a very loud extractor fan. The whole hotel is dilapidated. There is rubbish stored in corridors, like old bits of carpet and cardboard which look like they have been there for months. There is no-one to complain to as the hotel is unmanned. We complained to the lady serving breakfast, and although she apologised, she said there was nothing she could do as she was nothing to do with management. Thank goodness we were only booked for one night. We sent an email to complain, but 4 days later we have had no response. I have no idea how this hotel gets good reviews â those people didnât stay in the room we did! I hoped to get a response from the hotel, but I have had none. I have reported the rodent infestation to the local Environmental Health department.
The hotel was convenient for the location for tourist attractions and the town.
Beds were neatly made but no extra blankets. One side of king size bed was sloped and very uncomfortable and the other side springs were coming through. Very uncomfortable.
Heating goes off at 8pm, room was like sleeping in a fridge. I had hardly any sleep first night as I was so cold.
Inside and near the staircase and our room carpets were thread bear, covered in stains and musty smells.
Our bedroom carpet was dirty, stained and threadbare and very old. Walls needed a coat of paint. Cobwebs everywhere, dead spiders too. Damp on the bathroom window seals and walls. The bathroom door was dirty and hook was breaking off the veneered wood door. Handle was dirty.
Could do with updated to new carpets, painted walls, pelmets and cordless kettle and replace the 1970âs hairdryer. Replace lampshades and put pelmets around window and double glaze them.
Put some extra touches like biscuits, herbal teas and small hotel toiletries.
Photos on your website are not true to whatâs it looks like. So glossy and inviting but we got the opposite. Very disappointing.
We checked into the castle view on Friday night to find a film crew still filming The owner was there who was very disorganised and it took ages to check in No apology for the disruption the film crew caused We settled into our room and decided to go out for some food We opened our door to complete darkness and had to walk in darkness to top of the landing to put on a light on to find the film crew still filming We were rushed out of the hotel by the crew There was loads of film equipment through out the hotel which appeared to be fire risk We had stayed in this hotel before but would never returning Our booking should have been cancelled by the owners when they decided to allow a film crew to use it
This property is accommodation only and you deal with no people. You are given a code etc. I would assume as the builders are still about that this is a work in progress if that is the case then the poor condition of the rooms can be forgiven. Apart from that it was in the perfect location for us.
The property is a lovely old building. But you can see that it needs some investment. My room, the bathroom light has fallen off. In the bedroom the carpet was threadbare in parts. The skirting boards next to the bed and under the TV table were filthy. The paint was peeling off the windows. The bedding and towels, although they had been laundered had an awful musty smell. The bathroom was clean.
I visited Chepstow for a concert at the Castle and this hotel was the nearest hotel to the venue.
It's old, homely and comfortable
The contact free check in was a little worry with no text coming through in the morning, but this was sorted easily enough by phone call.
The hotel is being renovated at the moment and TBH the rooms need a little love from the carpets to the bathroom.
Everything is comfortable though and the location is perfect.
The good parts: I had an acceptable sleep and the location was good for where we wanted to visit in Chepstow and further abroad. Chepstow itself is a pleasant little place.
Unfortunately, room 8 didn't have curtains or blinds so for light sleepers it wouldn't be the best. I wasn't happy with the bathroom as the toilet brush was clogged and the shower didn't work. When I called the staff in the morning I was told a plumber would be there in 20 mins. Well over an hour later we still had nothing, so we left.

There wasn't an apology or refund forthcoming.

Unfortunately, room 8 was not up to scratch and wasn't ready to be used. During check-in I didn't receive all the codes I needed so they need to work on getting these out. The room didn't have curtains or blinds so for light sleepers it wouldn't be the best (see picture). The bog brush is an abject disgrace and grossly unhygienic (see picture). Personally, I wouldn't put someone in there if I had a guest room like that. I would take responsibility for my establishment and make sure the facilities are fully working, and I would at least apologise for the inconvenience and offer a refund. There wasn't an apology or refund forthcoming.
I work in sales so I spend my time trying to solve people's problems. I'm just here on holiday trying to enjoy myself but find I've been rinsed for a room that's not fit-for-purpose. Find another place.
Too much money to pay for a room with no breakfast provided! and no staff on the premises where you can leave your luggage, had to screw the part where the lock goes into the door back on as it was in secure.
