Famous for its crystal-clear waters, the area of Castellammare del Golfo is considered as one of the most beautiful locations in Italy and worldwide, also thanks to its proximity to San Vito Lo Capo, the Gulf of Macari, the Zingaro Reserve and the Tonnara of Scopello.
More specifically, the Zingaro Nature Reserve will seduce you: it is a protected natural area where the local flora and fauna coexist in harmony. It is characterized by 3 paths (âcostieroâ, âdi mezza costaâ and âaltoâ) enriched by numerous coves, where their crystalline waters stand out. For this reason, we suggest you take your mask and flippers with you, to fully enjoy the beautiful seabed that the reserve offers.
Also the Gulf of Macari, located just 40 km from Castellammare, is not to be missed: here, the sea has some wonderful shades to be discovered.
30 km away is Erice, an ancient city of Phoenician and Greek origins, perched 751 m high on the mountain that bears the same name. Surrounded by the walls, the city is a maze of narrow streets with two faces: the sunny, bright one of the hot summer days, and that of the winter days, when one has the perception of visiting a place out of time.
The closest airport is Palermo-Falcone e Borsellino, which can be reached in an hour by car (50 km). Otherwise, Trapani airport can be an option: it is located 60 km away.
We had a lovely week at Ulivo Blu. Having had issues with our flight, we were extremely late arriving, but one of our hosts took the time to send us videos of exactly how to access the place and collect our keys - so helpful. The accommodation was clean and simple, but had everything we needed, including a huge - and very comfortable - bed and, most importantly, working aircon in all rooms. Probably THE highlight though was the pool - it's very well kept, with lovely clean water and what a gorgeous backdrop! The only small issue we had was that the sink in the kitchen was unusable due to a serious leak in the u-bend. Staff came to try and fix it, but a plumber was needed and, this being on Sicilian time, no plumber arrived during our week-long stay. No big deal though, as we just used a bathroom sink (there were 2 to choose from) for washing up.Overall I'd say that Ulivo Blu is a really lovely place to stay. It has a very laid back air of somewhere that had maybe seen better days, but it is still well kept and is well away from the bustle of busier places while still being very well situated for getting around northwest Sicily. Would we go back? Yes, in a heartbeat!
