Lovely stone home with garden, in a castle near beach and 1 hour from Venice - 3

Casa La Vicinia is situated in one of the oldest private castles of northern Italy. The owners have lovingly restored three beautiful stone homes supplying them with all comforts.

It has its own private garden, closed with a fence in order to guarantee the privacy of the guests, who also have access to the gardens of the castle.

On the ground floor there is a dining/living area with a bed-sofa, armchair, several chairs, carpet, desk, small tables, cupboard, sat-tv, wooden table and chairs, drawer.
There is also a fully equipped kitchen.
From the dining/living area you have access on a lovely arched portico and on the garden for al fresco resting and eating. There are a wooden table and chairs, a round table with chairs, a BBQ and deckchairs.

On the first floor there are:
-a vast open space area with double bed and a
-a large double room.
Both open space area and double room have a cupboard, drawer, bedside tables, chairs, desk, mirror, carpet and each have their own bathroom with shower, sink, bidet and wc

All efforts have been made to offer a wonderful stay.

The castle complex is formed by the main building, surrounded by a series of beautiful stone buildings once used as guards’ houses, administrative and judicial centre, stables, artisan workshop, granaries, archives, rice mill and tower.

On one side the main building is connected by an arch to the church of St. Nikolaus, formerly castle’s chapel which was donated to the village (catholic masses on Sundays) and on the other side there is the ancient tower.

The setting is really beautiful and the whole is surrounded by lovely gardens, crossed by spring-water streams and rivers.

Strassoldo is a precious gem of a lovely and still unknown region which is not overrun by tourists. In fact, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, has many important historical sites, a lovely nature with many different wonderful landscapes ranging from high mountains, through rolling hills and green plains to rock or sand beaches.

The castle is situated in a very central position from where it is easy to reach all these attractions.
Only to mention a few, #Venice is reachable in 1 hour's drive, the ancient Roman colony of Aquileia (the second biggest colony of Rome) in 10 minutes, the golden beach of Grado in 20 minutes, the beautiful town of Udine in 30 minutes, the marvellous Adriatic Gulf with the town/port of Trieste in 38 minutes, Slovenia in 35 minutes and Austria in 60 minutes.

The guests can relax, make very nice walks in the Friulan countryside, go biking through cute little rural villages, go swimming in the nearby Adriatic Sea and make nice day excursions to many interesting regional sites and towns.

The region also offers the possibility to taste excellent Friulan wines and food.

Lovely, wonderful stay
We had an amazing time in Strassoldo. One of our favourite short term stays we have had. The unit was spotelessly clean, and had all the conveniences you could think of. The castle of Strassoldo is very interesting to wander around, and the town is centrally located for many daytrips. We loved it!

Lovely Village Stay
Castello Di Strassoldo is a lovely spot, not fancy but comfortable and well equipped, in a unique and special setting. The owner Gabriella and helper Nidia are wonderful and it is clear that you are staying somewhere with tremendous history and charm. The castle complex is fascinating and the morning and hourly bells from the small church remind you regularly that you are in a bit of a fantasy land! There is not much to the town other than a small grocery store, a pharmacy and a post office but that's really all you need! Except, of course, a truly wonderful bar called BarBagianni (you will understand the name when you get there!) that is run by a lovely group of women and seems to be the social center of the town. It is a vibrant place that made our stay perfect.

The King (and Queen) of the Castle
We had a wonderful week in Strassoldo. The house was extremely comfortable with a small but perfectly serviceable kitchen. The bedrooms were large and bright with very comfortable beds, The outdoor area is beautiful and a wonderful place to wander with a glass of wine in the evening. The are two restaurants and an excellent little grocery store just around the corner. Nidia was charming, sweet and very attentive. Even though she didn't speak a word of English we got along famously.

Idyllic setting
What a gem! The castle and surrounding grounds were beautiful. The host was friendly and accommodating (and even gifted us fresh bread and local wine!). We enjoyed coffee and dinners on the patio, watching the birds, and the serene setting. Thank you!

A Gorgeous,Tranquil Retreat, Full of History and Character
Castello Strassoldo is a true gem! We rented the Rice Mill and Casa la Vicinia for 10 members of our family and friends to stay for a week. It was a special week because we were bringing my mother-in-law back to Trieste for the first time since she left when she was 17 years old - which was more than 50 years ago. Our vacation week also included our wedding anniversary. The entire property is just gorgeous. It is beautifully maintained, and the grounds are full of flowers, ponds and birds. All of our bedrooms were beautifully appointed, spacious, and very comfortable. Everyone in our group raved about their rooms! The Rice Mill's living room and kitchen were lovely as well, and gave us ample room to cook, make cocktails, and share big dinners and lots of conversation. Because of some changes to people's schedules, we had only one guest use Casa la Vicinia for one night, but she loved it and it was gorgeous inside. When the other room in the casa wasn't able to be used as a bedroom due to changes in the local housing codes, Gabriella generously offered the castle tower room, which also had a beautiful sitting room and an enormous bathroom with walk-in shower. Our two guests who stayed there loved it! Gabriella and her staff were thoughtful, generous, attentive and truly lovely. Nidia was our main contact, and she was exceptionally kind and helpful throughout our entire week. Gabriella and Nidia generously offered to cook and present our anniversary dinner party, which took them two days to prepare. It was held in the castle, and it looked so beautiful! The food was delicious, and Tomasz prepared the best cocktails. It was a very special evening and we were very grateful for their thoughtful attention to all the details - down to the beautiful fresh cut flowers from the garden. All of this was even more remarkable given the fact that Gabriella had thrown her back out that week and was in a lot of pain. She did everything possible to make our stay unique and memorable. I cannot thank Gabriella, Nidia, and Tomasz enough for their hospitality and their generosity. Grazie! Nicole

We simply call the place The Castle! It was everything we hoped for and more!
Strassoldo was our jumping off point for trips to Maniago, Triesta and Venezia. Gabrielle and Nidia have worked very hard for many years to turn this place into a N. Italy paradise. Easy to reach Cervignano to catch the train. Great to come back to in the evenings. Comfortable and very clean. A walk back in time. Several small restaurants within a few minute walk. And, a very convenient small supermarket with everything you could want to take back to the castle to cook an evening meal. We shared our time there with close friends for week and really didn’t want to leave. Highly recommended, especially to get away from a 24/7 life style. We’ll be back. Grazie! Grazie! PS...Thanks for the wonderful breads!

A beautiful step back in time!!!
Our week in Strassoldo at La Vicinia was perfect! Beautiful gardens, cobblestone walkways, a river complete with water wheel, traditional foods in the quaint village restaurants, church bells, and a roomy two bedroom, two bathroom castle apartment all contributed to our desire to return as soon as possible. Our host, Gabriella, and her dear assistant, Nidia, made us feel like we were visiting family rather than Americans they had never met. The village is located within very close access to beach communities, historical villages with noted early Roman mosaics and ruins, wineries, Venice, the lagoons of the Adriatic, and other areas of interest. Yet, the village and the castle are an oasis of peacefulness and beauty.

Great location - could use more personal attention
We spent a week here, and loved the location and the apartment. There was a lot to see and do in the area, as long as you had a car, and there were restaurants within walking distance of the apartment. The apartment was clean and nicely decorated, with a lovely outdoor sitting area. Our only complaints: - the owner had three very large dogs who roamed freely in close proximity to our outdoor space. We love dogs, but they defecated profusely. The owners cleaned it up every couple of days, but it detracted from our enjoyment of the area. - the person who greeted us on arrival could not speak English at all, so it made it difficult to understand where we were supposed to go, where to park the car, etc. The instructions that were provided to us prior to arrival were difficult to understand. - Gabriella (the owner) said she was looking forward to meeting us, but despite her assurances that she would be there to greet us, we didn't meet her until the day before our departure. By then, it was too late to visit the various sites that she recommended to us.
