Holiday Home 'Il Mirtillo' with Wi-Fi & A/C
Nestled in a quiet piazza 'Il Mirtilllo' is one of ten houses that make up this ancient square, the oldest part of Chianni village. The Church of San Donato, dominates the piazza and has origins dating back to the 13th century. The house dating back to around 17th century, has maintained it's character of wooden beams, tiled floors and ceilings. The decor is true to it's Tuscan origins of painted plaster walls in traditional colours. Modern appliances compliment this delightful old house .
The town has been known for years for its olive growing, the extra virgin olive oil of Chianni was created here, an oil with intense colour, a low level of acidity and a fruity flavour. The forests of Chianni and the surrounding areas are home to the wild boar, every second and third weekend of November the oldest food festival in Tuscany is held, where you can taste wild boar dishes and other specialities of the local cuisine.
The village is served by a local bus that connects other local villages to Pontedera.
The nearest bus stop is outside the post office. From Pontedera you can reach most major cities by using the train station, opposite the bus station. Pisa is a ten minute train ride, Florence around 45 minutes. There is a large car park next to the bus station too should you wish to drive to Pontedera and then use public transport as parking in old Italian cities can be a problem.
The area is very popular with walkers and cyclists alike. There are many routes to hike and cycle with specialist maps being available from the Tourist information office.
Hidden in a tiny nook of the village, can this apartment oozing with rustic charm be found. Beautifully presented, with all the characteristics and functionality that a quaint self-catering apartment offers. Unfortunately, I didnât get to experience the AC that was advertised, due to the owner telling me that it was broken. However, he compensated with two electric fans.. which were greatly needed in 35 degree-heat! The other thing to mention is that if youâre driving, thereâs no where to park near to the property. The closest car park is a 5-10 minute walk downhill from its location. Otherwise, a very well managed self-contained apartment.
