Beti's Basecamp | Tiny Home for Big Adventures
Looking for a home base for South Shore adventures? Pitch your camp at Betiâs Basecamp! This is a delightfully sunny space, with a full bedroom and bath, cozy living room, and a ridiculously efficient kitchen. Itâs a tiny house that feels roomy inside, with plenty of space for feasting in the kitchen or binge-watching a show. Add in a hot tub and a sweet little fire ring, and youâve got everything you need to celebrate the dayâs adventures along Lake Superior.
Your host runs Bark Point Ventures, a vacation rental management & concierge company that specializes in properties on Lake Superior's South Shore. We're nearby and we're always available to assist our guests. Our passion is ensuring guests experience the magic of the South Shore--what we feel is one of the most amazing places in the world.
The South Shore is truly a place to get away from it all, but not so far from modern conveniences that getting food and gas feels like a chore. The guest book contains tips on all the incredible outdoor activities around here, as well as local arts, plus places to get groceries, dine out, grab a drink, etc. This is truly a year-round destination, whether you enjoy outdoor adventure, local cuisine, art, or simply the company of friends & family in one of the most beautiful locations in the northern U.S.
The home is just a few minutes from the center of Cornucopia, which has a delightful general store/market, awesome coffee shop, bar/restaurant, and marina. Bayfield is about 35 minutes away, as is Washburn (where youâll find the largest grocery store in the area). Ashland is about 45 minutes away, with a natural foods co-op, Wal-Mart, and a wider range of shops). Superior & Duluth are an hour and a bit away.
Welcome to Betiâs Basecamp! Step in the door and youâll find yourself at one end of a common area that runs the length of the house. It delivers nice views through big windows, and with all that natural light it always feels open and airy. You'll find a sofa and two easy chairs to get comfy in, whether youâre watching a show or watching the light play off of the trees outside. Thereâs also a fireplace insert for warmth and vibes on chilly nights.
Behind the sitting room is the kitchen. Itâs got the full lineup of appliances: stovetop and oven, microwave, fridge and freezer, and even a dishwasher! Weâve also got a complete setup for your morning coffee, and we stock the house with beans from our friends at Lake Wind Coffee in Port Wing. Thereâs a peninsula countertop that gives you some extra prep space, and also has bar seating for four when itâs feeding time. Speaking of kitchens, we know a lot of food producers on the South Shore, and weâll deliver fresh, locally-produced foodsâmeats, fish, veggies, and moreâto the house! Just get in touch with us before you check in.
Behind the kitchen youâll find the bathroom: itâs compact and efficient, but it sure doesnât skimp on creature comforts, with two sinks at the vanity and a gorgeous step-in shower with glass doors. The bathroom also connects to the bedroom, giving it the convenience of an en-suite bath.
The bedroom is cozy and just right for relaxing after a long day of adventure (itâs also just right for some all-day lounging, if thatâs the sort of adventure youâve got in mind). Itâs got a comfy king bed (which can be separated into two twin beds) and bedside lights for reading, plus windows so you can start off your day with lovely natural light (and if youâre a sleepyhead, just draw the blinds and snooze away!).
If you want to bring the party outside, we donât blame you! When itâs time for sâmores, head for the fire ring: itâs got two Adirondack chairs to keep you comfy for a whole evening of conversation and stargazing. Thereâs also a little patio off the side of the house, and when you check it out youâll see itâs got two chairs and a hot tub: could there be a better way to end a day of South Shore adventures back at basecamp?
Due to the lack of public transit and the distances between amenities, a car is pretty much a necessity here on the South Shore. On the other hand, traffic is a concept we don't even have up here!
