Very Poor Terrible Experience

Our stay at the Blackstone in Lead, So. Dakota, was terrible! The desk personnel was pleasant. And friendly. But there was so much wrong with the room. I wish I had never used hotel.com to reserve my room. The hotel Blackstone in Lead South Dakota was given a score of 8. By hotel.com. Nothing could be further from the truth. I would give it possibly a score of -10. 1. Carpet and floors, dirty, and stained. 2. Had to call to have TV turn on. And after 3. Could not shut the TV off. 4. Refrigerator in room did not work even after I turned it on. Therefore, we lost our food. 5. Heater malfunctioned. 6. Hairdryer unit came completely out of the wall. 7. Toilet paper holder came out of the wall. 8. Bathroom floor dirty. 9. One packet of decaf coffee and 1 cup in the room upon arrival instead of the usual two regular and two decaf packets. 10. Towels were worn thin and small. 11. Before leaving for the day, we gave staff a list of things that needed taken care of while we were out and upon our return 10 hours later nothing was completed. 12. Beds were uncomfortable/lumpy. 13. The room had an odd odor. When I asked if I could change my reservation, I was told no because I had gone through hotel.com paid and reserved the room. I hope to hear from hotel.com and possibly receive some type of compensation for our Terrible Experience and Stay at the Blackstone hotel.

The bed was nice...

The bed was comfy and clean. Thats the end of the positives. The bathroom was filtly. Huge clump of hair in the shower, dirty wash cloth in the night stand, garage on the floor NEXT to garbage can. Food in the fridge. Non smoking room, strong smoke odor. Remote missing battery cover and didnt turn the TV on or off. Breakfast area was dirty, waffle batter was runny and pale, made a tasteless rubbery waffle. The staff was nice but disnt seem to care when I teied to mention the uncleanliness. A cheap bed to sleep in, but would not stay again if traveling alone.

Awful

Very old place much in need of upgrades. It was not clean. Coffee pack and soap from previous guests on the floor. It had not been vacuumed. Worn shabby looking towels. The toilet didn’t flush properly. The coffee machine and tray were dirty. Dust on the bedside tables and on the very old air conditioning unit. Curtains very old and wouldn’t close .

Will not stay here again!

Our room was not cleaned during our 4 day stay at all. Family Room/Suite was dirty, ceiling tiles were falling down in our room and bath exhaust tile was falling down as well. Breakfast area was empty of food in mornings during open breakfast hours and very dirty. TVs/remotes not operational, front desk was always unmanned and laundry room was out of order.

Boiler broken - NO HOT WATER during my stay

WARNING- No Hot Water as their boiler is broken. Do NOT give them any money unless you can go to the room and test the water first. They have many reviews across the internet if you sort by recent showing their lack of hot water in entire hotel dating back six weeks. They are fixing it supposedly but save yourself a headache and choose another location. Best of luck! They also are avoiding reimbursing me for needing to vacate several days early so I could shower during my week long vacation. Simply unethical and they really do NOT care.

When I checked in to this hotel they told me where the hot tub was. I went up to my room and our key didn’t work so I went back to the front desk to get that fixed, and asked when the hot tubs closed which the same man then said “oh we are experiencing an issue with them” so they weren’t truthful right off the bat. The people down the hall from us had an issue with the cleanliness of their room, which we didn’t really have any issues. But in the morning my fiancé went to get breakfast and heard people talking about having no hot water, he texted me asking me to turn on the shower, and we also had no hot water. I understand sometimes things happen but it would be nice if the employees were up front it just seemed shady, so we were happy to leave. When I was checking out several people were upset at the front (understandably) but sounded like they were giving out fake info for a manager that didn’t exist. We didn’t even dive into that we just ended up leaving, I don’t think anyone was able to get a refund. Wish I had looked into this place more before booking!

Everything was good. Except the room floor was dirty. Bottom of my socks were very dirty from the floor. Other wise everything was clean. My only concern was when I was taking my dogs to go outside to potty. The staff stopped me and wanted to pet them. They didn’t understand that in the morning they need to get outside.

No hot water and terrible service

No hot water when we checked in after a day of hiking and sweating. After talking with other guests that had checked in before us it was clear that the staff knew they had no hot water, didn’t inform us, and took our credit card for check in anyways. When we notified the front desk the hotel staff acted like it was new news, walked off for a minute and returned telling us there was a leak in the boiler. They said the thought they had it fixed the day prior (obviously a lie since other guests had already notified them). When one Hotel.com representative we contacted through the chat line called the hotel they were informed the hotel would have it fixed the following morning (no specific time given). We were planning an early check-out and it was unacceptable for the hotel to not provide hot water for the entirety of our stay. By the way, the water was ice cold and no way my wife could shower. And of course, the hotel would not refund our money because they were “going to fix it in the morning”. We left and found another hotel. Completely unacceptable. Do not patronize this hotel.

Property is dated, needs upgraded. Washer leaking in laundry room, water standing on floor. Toilet brush left in elevator. Staff friendly. Given towels when we asked but they are thin and worn. We opted not to have housekeeping come in during our stay since we were only there 3 days.
