Wonderful House, wonderful place

Coming from France, we were looking for a quiet and beautiful place to do an Ocean Break in the OBX. The House, the Beach, the Ocean and the Town & Restaurants were great and we got a very good week. This House is perfect if you want to do the same.

Family getaway!!!

This was our first family vacation in 10 years and I will say it was amazing. The house was perfect. Steps away from the beach. When you look at the listing you never know what you are going to get but I will say everything stated was there. We cooked in every night and had plenty of cookware. Kitchen was fully stocked!! We had 2 little ones with us and it was perfect being so close to the beach and the rooms worked out great for us. The table fitted all of us so dinners and family game night was great!!! Highly recommend this house to all!!! We actually had a visitor come to our door who is renting the house next year
he was super nice and also loved the house!!!

Great vacation house

This house was a great vacation spot for our family of 6 adults and 2 young children. The highlights were the large open living space, well equipped kitchen, screened in porch and several other porches. There was plenty of beach equipment. The outdoor shower was large and a great addition. One of the best aspects of the house was location. The neighborhood was lovely and quiet, The house was close to the beach path. Also close to Duck and not too far from most anything you could want. The host were friendly and responsive.

We are an older couple and this house was perfect for us. The owners have taken care to provide everything that you could want so if very much felt like home. Breakfast and dinner daily on a great screened in porch. a perfectly designed and equiped kitchen and a beautiful comfortable family room surrounded by 360 degree panoramic windows. this is not a modern mcmansion smothered with high tech foam and fabrics ....it is an older style home that the owners have taken great care to make it that you will settle right in and breathe deeply and easily. the neighborhood is perfectly quiet...all you hear are the birds and at times the faint ocean sound...this house is not for everyone but if you want quiet, comfortable, lovely and fully equiped...then this is probably for you

House and neighborhood was perfect! Host responsive and friendly with a house that had everything. We walked on the beach daily despite storm Debbie looming! Duck has the perfect amount of restaurants and shops! Allowed for time with family which is always the best!!

Nice home!

This home is nice and steps to the ocean. That is fabulous. The beach is absolutely stunning! The kitchen is fully stocked and the property manager is very responsive as we had a few problems and they worked to resolve them quickly. The pool is a community pool and quite a distance from the home. They have a lot of rules so the pool was not much fun. Our beach wagon broke two days into the trip.causing us to try and carry everything to the beach. On our last day, two maintenance men came and brought a new one for the next customers. That was disheartening. They also assembled a new grill and said , the grill we used was in terrible condition. We knew that, yet used it the whole week. We had a wonderful time in OBX yet the cost of the house, approximately 5,000.00 for the week was a lot for the older home and its amenities.

Comfortable and Convenient

We enjoyed our stay at Writer's Refuge. This home is clean, comfortable and well equipped. Location to the town of Duck and beach access is very convenient for guests interested in sunbathing or shopping and dining out. There are some things needing a little TLC. Some outdoor equipment and furniture requires maintenance or replacement, ie: rusty/ torn beach cabanas and umbrella stands/ table and chairs on upper deck. Bedroom space is tight for 10 people, we had 7 adults, 2 small children. Sliding door to small "writer's deck" is difficult to open and close. Several table lamps needed light bulbs replaced. There is no controlling the weather and it was rainy before and during our stay. The nearby parking lot next to the house was a pond the entire week due to inadequate drainage/grading and that extended into the side/ backyard of this property. We did not take advantage sitting on the first floor deck due to high mosquito activity there. Screen door on the upper deck is flapping loosely letting in flies/ mosquitos.

Spring Break in the Outer Banks

We loved our stay at Pineapple by the Sea! We loved the community and being steps away from the beach! This house was perfect for our party of 5 adults and 3 teenagers, incredibly spacious and equipped with every thing imaginable! We look forward to renting here again in the future!

Great family getaway!

We really enjoyed our stay at Patty and Lane’s home in Duck. Their house was impeccably clean upon arrival and was exactly like the listing. It has everything you need for a relaxing week at the OBX. The beach is a short walk from the house which was fantastic especially since we had our 3 month old granddaughter with us. I definitely recommend their home to anyone looking for a great place to stay. One note: Don’t follow Google Map’s directions to get to the place. It takes you down the wrong street that does not have access to the property.

Location, location, location!!

You can’t beat this location! STEPS from an absolutely gorgeous beach- what more could we ask for?! The house was decent- definitely not the most up to date, but for the price and location you can’t beat it! Patty was great to work with. She even recommended a photographer for us to get family pics done while we were there. Thanks for a great trip to the OBX!

Wonderful beach vacation

We had a great vacation at this house. It was beautifully decorated and everything was accurate to the listing. The house is in a great spot where you can see the sunrise and the sunset. We would definitely go back to this home.

Perfect vacation

The house was lovely. Description was accurate. Everything you could need was provided. Close to a lot of restaurants and little grocer. Very, very quiet and secluded. A nice area to stay in. Kids played outside in a shady yard and driveway. House itself was convenient. Kitchen was fully stocked. Plenty of space to spread out. It is a much farther walk to the beach than anticipated. There are stairs to go up and then sand down a dune. This is really difficult if you have kids, coolers, carts, etc. We stay on the beach 9-5 so if you just go for a bit and don't have a lot then it would be easier. We are used to first row being much easier to access the beach.

Home away from home

Our stay was wonderful. It was so easy to walk into the house and get settled in. We have stayed at a number of beach houses on the East Coast, but this was our first stay at the Outer Banks. We fell in love with the area and the house! Its proximity to the beach was key, and with the owners providing beach chairs and beach towels, it made the beach experience very easy. We had our own beach tent so didn't use the umbrellas but did note there was one or two there if need be. We also took advantage of the pool that was located about 1.5 miles away. It was not busy when we went and very refreshing. Note this is not a pool where you can toss a ball or bring a tube (it's part of the tennis and racquet club for members/guests), but for us and our kids (ages 11 and 13), it was a perfect way to spend a couple of hours. In the house, Patty provided everything you would need. There were towels, sheets, extra pillows, blankets, kitchen towels, pots, pans, knives, serving dishes, a few spices, and a large brita in the fridge. We visited the Harris Teeter in Carolla on the Sunday after we arrived and we were able to find what we needed. We went out a few meals in Duck and then went exploring down Route 12 into other OBX towns for a few meals. The center of the town of Duck (about 3 miles from house) is cute with boutique type stores and lovely souvenir shops. All in all, we had a fantastic time. Thank you to Patty for making it easy to create a home away from home!

Lots of Beach Toys

This house is spacious and comfortable. It's very close to the beach, which is a distinct advantage. Coming from a long distance away, it was so helpful not to have to pack beach chairs, beach toys, umbrellas, and boogie boards. All of those amenities are included, and we made use of them. Lots of beach toys and crabbing nets to use. We enjoyed our vacation here.
