North Star (#301) | Deck, Mtn Views, Ski Shuttle, Heated Pool/Hot Tub

North Star at Cascade Village (#301 - Silverton Bldg) is a cool mountain escape, with a full kitchen, king bedroom, wood burning fireplace (wood provided), and a deck off the living room facing beautiful mountain views. Located only two miles from Purgatory Ski Resort, guests are only minutes away from the ski slopes! Many scenic mountain trails are also within minutes of the Cascade Village condos. The condo features garage parking, on-site access to an indoor heated pool, hot tubs, sauna, game room, tennis courts and a ski rental shop and coin laundry on site.

The condo is fully furnished and offers all the comforts of home. This getaway features an open floor plan, full kitchen, fireplace and deck with big mountain views. It's the perfect location to snuggle up with a book, hike in the nearby national forest, or come home to a warm crockpot of chili after a day on the slopes.

LOCATION AND AMENITIES: Cascade Village has amazing views of the Needles Mountains, is less than 2 miles north of Purgatory Ski Resort, 26 miles north of downtown Durango, and 25 miles south of Silverton. Free on-site amenities at Cascade include an indoor heated pool, sauna, outdoor/indoor hot tubs, pool table and game room, outdoor tennis court, ski rental shop (with discounts). It is also near the Nordic Center for cross-country skiing, and near numerous hiking trails, fishing creeks and jeeps trails. Many guests stay here to visit Purgatory Ski Resort, which offers a variety of restaurants, winter and summer activities, and festivals/events.

SKI SHUTTLE: Purgatory offers a complimentary ski shuttle to our Cascade rental guests on a set schedule 1-2 times in the AM and PM during the ski season, on a first come first serve basis. Details will be provided in your rental instructions.

WIFI / TV: All of the Cascade Village units are equipped with reliable Fiber Optic internet service with an average internet speed of up to 50 Mbps and guests can stream their favorite movies and TV shows on their preferred provider (e.g. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime) using the smart TVs in the unit. With fast and reliable fiber optic WIFI, guests can stream on multiple devices. Cable TV is not available in any units at Cascade Village.

NO PETS/ NO TRAILERS: Due to HOA rules, the condo (and all condos in the building) is not pet friendly. Please do not bring your pets/emotional support animals. Also, trailers are not allowed.

COOLING: Please note that, like most properties in the area, this home does not have AC, as it is uncommon for homes at this elevation. Temperatures inside the property are easily managed by using fans and opening the windows at night when temperatures drop into the 40s.

This place is PERFECT for a small family. There were so many amenities that weren’t mentioned that deserve credit. The closet is full of games and movies and items for staying with small children. There’s a kids potty seat too. There were plenty of linens, blankets towels etc. And we were supplied with plenty of cleaning supplies in the kitchen. The kitchen was very well stocked with cookware and dining ware. We cooked many meals here. There was also a great little basket with all the necessities for fire starting. The property itself is also gorgeous!! This place was cozy and beautiful. We will be back!

The location to Durango, Purgatory and Silverton was perfect without being in the crowds. The size was just right for the two of us. My only disappointments was that there was no washer and dryer. I had read that they provided laundry detergent and assumed they had washer and dryer but there is one within the building. If you have trouble with cigarette smoke or pot, SOMETIMES you can smell it in the kitchen from the neighbors nearby in the hall. You can definitely smell it out the front door. Otherwise, perfect! Our view was incredible! Quiet in September. We felt remote even though just off the road. Very nice and comfortable. Plenty of pots, pans, bowls, knives, strainers, crock pot, etc. Basic spices were there, extra blankets, fireplace was nice. If you want to enjoy the chairs on patio, we learned to bring them in at night so they weren't full of dew. The view was incredible! Sunrise and reflexion of the sunset on the mountains through window and balcony view. The bed was very comfortable. Felt like home but so much better! We tried to stay longer but it was already booked!

There should have been better communication regarding the number of stairs to access the unit. I was traveling with a handicapped person. Also the blind facing incoming parking traffic couldn't be closed all the way, compromising privacy. Otherwise this was a very nice unit.

Pros and cons

Pros: the condo is right on 550 and there are many trailheads and lakes around. We enjoyed Mathews slake 14 miles north up 550, twilight lake and its playground, and haviland lake, along with several trails. There is a restaurant on the property. The condo is as pictured and is clean, spacious for a 1br. I enjoyed the amazing plethora of hummingbirds while sitting on the deck and walking around. I enjoyed the property’s outdoor hot tub and the closeness to purgatory ski area and it’s activities. Cons: I didn’t know the area, and was disappointed to learn that this condo is actually 30mim from Durango proper. The condo advertisement doesn’t really mention this directly, so it was surprising and makes it challenging to time things with young children along. It leaves little ability for grabbing a bite out at a restaurant, although there are a few (2-3) choices (recommend strongly James Ranch, 14 miles away). The hot water heater did not last to fill the jacuzzi bathtub for a bath and the bathtub drain did not seal (which may contribute to why the hot water didn’t fill up tub). This only was a problem when trying to bathe my son. The shower stream was great though and plenty of hot water for a long shower. The biggest con was the traffic noise. The condo does not have AC so we had to sleep with the windows open. But the condo is 100ft from highway 550, and the noise from cars, trucks, and motorcycles was loud and kept us awake. The second night we set the freestanding fan on high for white noise and that helped a lot. Maybe planning to have a noise machine app on your phone if you are a lighter sleeper can help?

It was warm (for Colorado) the first few days. After that the weather was fine. Since the condo doesn't have AC (few do in Colorado) it was warm inside during the day but the evenings were great! Beautiful place and well stocked. I recommend this condo in any season!!

Great place to relax and enjoy the mountains of Colorado

This was a great experience it felt like we were home from the bottle of wine on the dining room table to the details in every room needed to made our stay very comfortable. The balcony gave us a beatiful look at the mountains as we drank our coffee in the morning. Location is great for hiking around this area and good for enjoying the drives into Silverton and Durango. We love the location and enjoyed our stay and will stay here again when we come back to this area.
