Secluded cabin with hot tub, heated floors, indoor and outdoor fireplaces

Life seems to slow down at The Steel Nest—a place of quiet forests, endless stars, and fireside nights on your own private mountaintop. Wander through fallen leaves or snowy woods, then return to cozy heated floors, a crackling wood stove, and the hot tub under a canopy of stars.

With over 10 acres and no neighbors in sight, this serene hideaway is where modern design meets ultimate comfort. Breathe deep and slow down; you've found the perfect spot to recharge and reconnect.

Follow the long, winding driveway to this hidden sanctuary where peace and relaxation await. Whether you're seeking a quiet getaway together or a solo recharge, The Steel Nest is designed to help you unwind.

The open-concept main level features:

- Cozy seating around the Morso wood stove with a leather sofa and walls of windows framing the serene landscape.
- Heated floors that flow through the entire home, wrapping you in warmth and cabin comfort from the ground up.
- Seamless indoor-outdoor living with a screened porch, an outdoor fireplace with a comfortable seating area, and the hot tub tucked into the wooded grounds.
- A full kitchen stocked with all the essentials, from cookware to both Keurig & drip coffee makers and basic pantry staples.
- A live-edge dining table with seating for four, perfect for sharing meals or enjoying a game night.
- A half bath leading to a seasonal outdoor shower (typically closed from November to March), offering a refreshing way to connect with nature.
- A propane grill just outside for effortless outdoor cooking.

Upstairs, the two-bedroom layout offers a peaceful retreat:

- Primary Suite: A king-size bed with hotel-quality linens, high wood-beamed ceilings, walls of windows, a sitting area, and a Roku TV (the only TV in the cabin).
- Second Bedroom: A queen-size bed with hotel-quality linens and beautiful natural light.

Full Bathroom: Located between the bedrooms, this bathroom features heated tile floors, dual sinks, and a walk-in rainfall shower. We provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Linens, towels, paper products, and basic supplies are provided to get you started for a long weekend.

Winter in the mountains can bring snow and ice. Please ensure you have a vehicle that can handle these road conditions.

Please bring your own firewood if you wish to use the indoor Morso wood stove or the outdoor fireplace.

To ensure The Steel Nest is the perfect fit for your getaway, please review the following details about the cabin's unique character:

- Embrace Nature: There are no window coverings in the cabin, allowing you to wake up with the natural light and fall asleep under the stars.
- Hot Tub: We drain and refill the hot tub between each stay for cleanliness. It may take until the evening of your arrival for the water to reach its target temperature of approximately 102 degrees.
- Mountain Air: The cabin does not have air conditioning. The cool mountain air and evening breezes typically keep the space comfortable, but please be aware that it can get warm on summer afternoons.
- Unplug & Connect: There is no TV in the main living area to encourage connection and relaxation. The only TV is located in the primary bedroom.
- Cozy Acoustics: The open design means sound carries between floors—perfect for conversation, but something to keep in mind for your group's privacy.

OUTDOOR CAMERA: There is an outdoor camera facing the parking area as well as a trail cam at the entrance gate. They are on 24/7 and can record video and sound.

Fantastic cabin! Very clean when we arrived and truely private, no neighbors in sight. The worst thing I could find was a light out above the grill. My wife will definitely be back to this cabin.

The Still Nest is just beautiful! My wife and I love to find new fun places to stay for overnight get away, but few check all the boxes for us. This place does though! Quite, hot tub, fire place, full kitchen, no close neighbors and uniquely decorated. We loved our stay and will defiantly be coming back. Thanks Alison!

Awesome! Quiet, secluded setting was just what we wanted. Spent a lot of time in the screened in porch and the hot tub. Was worried with no AC in the middle of a hot July, but was comfortable especially at night with a nice breeze thru the many screened windows. Has everything you need, perfect vacation! (Also, make sure to see the wild horses)

Cozy and tranquil weekend retreat.

After a particularly exhausting week, I'd had enough of being accessible and decided I needed to get away. I pulled up VRBO during a meeting I was 25% paying attention to so that I coule browse options within a resonable driving distance (six hours or less) from DC for a weekend getaway - and then I found the Steel Nest. From the pictures, it was exactly what I needed - nature, solace and a hot tub. I arrived on a Friday evening, shortly before sunset and knew that I had made the right choice. I enjoyed a lazy evening on the three seasons room amongst the cool night air. In the wee hours of the morning, I was awoken by the thunder as lightening lit up the windows on three sides of the primary bedroom and rain plinked on the roof. After waking at a more reasonable hour, I took a walk around the property as I waited for my Instacart order from Food City to arrive in time for a late breakfast. The rest of the day was spent reading, relaxing in the hot tub, listening to the rustle of the trees or an errant cow moo (and perhaps the cow may have overheard me singing terribly off key, but full of joy). I left on Sunday at 10:30am and check out was a breeze. I didn't need anything from Allison during my stay, but her hospitality before arriving and after departing as well as the thoughtfulness of the home's app was lovely. Thabk you again, Allison, for letting me reset at the Steel Nest. Until next time.

Serene Mountain Getaway

This cabin was everything we were looking for. Secluded and peaceful, it felt like we were truly tucked away in nature—but still close enough for great daytime hikes. The space was clean, serene, and thoughtfully designed with a beautiful blend of modern rustic charm and natural elements. We especially appreciated the small touches: warm floors to step onto in the morning, the refreshing mountain air gently blowing through the cabin, and a fully stocked kitchen that made it easy to cook almost every day. The hot tub was a dream after long hikes, and the bright, airy upstairs was a lovely place to unwind. This place strikes the right balance of comfort, style, and tranquility. We hope to return.

A beautiful place to stay for the short time.

Would recommend this stay again and again, it was a very fun experience. However the surrounding darkness in the woods is there. Be aware. It made it fun for me and my s/o. We had a blast being here.

Loved our fall stay in this gorgeous cabin. The indoor spaces were cozy and serene, with everything we needed for cooking simple meals at hand. Loved the outdoor spaces - grill, screen porch, fireplace area, and hot tub all wonderfully designed, in working order and easy to use with clear instructions provided. Owner was friendly and communicated throughout.

Magical in every way!

All I feel is relaxed, renewed, and a bit closer to nature after my stay here. From being greeted by a beautiful live small turtle in the gardens to having everything in the Steel Nest you could need, we were able to immerse ourselves in the serene surroundings without having to leave. The home is magical and really allowed us to be present and enjoy the sounds, sights, and energy of nature and the thoughtful, architecturally charming and impressive space, finishes, and co-exsistence of the modern home with the outdoors. The stay was bliss nonstop. I hope we can come back again to unwind, recharge, and feel the magic of this oasis.

Solitude in Style

What a wonderful property. If you want a stay in a work of art tucked on the side of a mountain this is your place. Everything you could need less food or clothing is provided including internet. We encountered one blip and the property owner immediately solved the problem, at 10 pm no less. The hot tub is icing on the cake and perfect after a day of hiking Mount Rogers. You will not find a nicer place to stay if planning a trip to Grayson Highlands State Park.
