The website states that there is no lift. On our first visit the very large gentleman receptionist directed us to the stairs and we dragged our suitcases up 2 flights to find that at the top there was a sign to The Lift. We were furious. On our second visit the same receptionist directed us to the lift which was ironic as we were in a room on the ground floor. The web site needs updating and the reception staff need educating. The breakfast buffet was hit & miss - one morning no bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and NO PLATES. Our room had only 4 sockets, all on the wall opposite the bed. We had to plug/unplug TV, kettle, hairdryer, 4 chargers - luckily I have a very long lead for my phone.

Fantastic stay. We have booked to go back later in the year. Staff very friendly and the breakfast exceptiinally good. The rooms are comfortable, but the whole place needs a bit of a refurb.

A very tired and dated looking hotel, beautiful architecture in dining room but chairs are threadbare. Room needed painting and bathroom shabby. Receptionist was not at all helpful on arrival and couldn’t answer our question about whether they served bar food that evening. They did serve bar food which was really good, decent size portion, piping hot and very tasty. Breakfast was equally as good with a good choice and all lovely and hot.

the location is great, the grounds are lovely and the staff are helpful, however the downstairs rooms need refurbishing (old brown chipped furniture) Large black marks on wall. Bathroom needs proper clean. The beds however were clean and comfy.

A nice surprise

Always thought of the Imperial as an old fashioned hotel. Very wrong - a nice surprise.

The Imperial has retained the original Victorian feel of the hotel. We stayed in one of the superior doubles with sea views which had a small balcony and a lovely view of the sea. We were lucky to have lovely sunny weather which made walking around Exmouth enjoyable. We were very pleased to find an abundance of places offering vegan food.

Not brilliant, but definitely not bad at all

Very nice hotel, although could do with sprucing up a bit. Carpets, paint work etc a bit old and patchy. Rooms are comfy and quite spacious. Could do with a safe and, especially in summer, a fan in the rooms too I know it's getting more common, but I'm not overly fond of being charged £6 a night to park on the private car park of a not inexpensive hotel. Staff were very good and helpful. Enjoyable stay, would probably return

The staff ( from reception ,management and restraunt ,and bar ,and housekeeping ..all very helpful and pleasant ) where helpful and friendly ,the food was very good with different variety ..no entertainment at night but could understand why as people go out or go to bed so wouldn’t be viable for the business ..but 5 mins to town plus entertainment venues on prom just outside the garden gates

Lovely weekend getaway

Really lovely hotel in the perfect location and great staff. Lovely terrace and gardens to enjoy a drink on a sunny afternoon. Can genuinely say all the staff were helpful and friendly- they really make this place. The only downside is it desperately needs a lick of paint outside. Can't really grumble about the interior, just the odd tired looking bit of furniture here and there but its the outside that would benefit the most from a little tlc

Saturday night stopover.

I had a fairly comfy twin room on the lower ground floor. The doors are very clunky so I would advise the hotel to ask guests to use the key to close the doors quietly. The TV was unacceptably small and bit of a joke. The room was clean except around the fixing at the base of the toilet. Breakfast was okay but the scrambled egg seemed to be undercooked to me so I didn’t have any, and there was no other choice of eggs at the buffet. I don’t approve of dogs in hotels.

Was a lovely 2 nights stay..had a superior twin seaview room. Breakfast was lovely. Plenty choice..the hotel could do with a little updating inside and outside. Booked a superior but unsure what was superior about it..unsure what you got extra than a standard. But overall a pleasant stay.

A little ‘Faulty Towers,

Very Average hotel. Looked and felt a little ‘faulty towers’. Room was boiling hot with no air conditioning, the window also had a very short safety cord so only opened a few inches. Room was basic but not worth the money paid. Sea view room booked but was on a low level room with a tree in the way.
