My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Foz do Iguaçu, which markets itself as a five star hotel. In the room it even stated, “If there’s anything we can do to make your stay better just tell us.” Unfortunately, despite some strong positives, the service experience was extremely disappointing.
I will start with the positives. The gym was very nice. The pool area was beautiful and well maintained. The spa was excellent and the massage therapists were wonderful. The breakfast and dinner buffet were both outstanding with plenty of options and high quality food. Those aspects of the stay were great.
However, the front desk service was probably the worst I have ever experienced at any hotel.
When we checked into our room, which was supposed to have a king bed, we found that it had two beds that were not a king. They were clearly not king size beds by any means. We even measured them to confirm, and they were significantly smaller than a standard king. So the room description was inaccurate. I called the front desk and they said they would check to see if any other rooms were available and would call back. They never did.
I called again and they asked us to come down to the lobby. My boyfriend speaks Portuguese, so there was no translation issue. He told the woman at the front desk four separate times what our room number was and that we were on the second floor. She repeatedly told us that if we wanted a different room, we would have to downgrade to the
