Whileaway Lakehouse: A Beautiful Lakefront Home Perfect for Making Memories!

Welcome to Whileaway Lakehouse, a stunning lakefront retreat overlooking ALL-SPORT Lake Arrowhead (also known as Buhl Lakes). This updated vintage lake house offers 2,700 square feet of living space and 174 feet of private lake frontage—plenty of room for the whole family to relax and play! With its ideal location, you can enjoy swimming, fishing, boating, ice fishing, and sledding, or simply unwind and take in the serene surroundings.

Outdoor enthusiasts will love the easy access to snowmobiling and ORV trails right outside the door, with ample driveway space for toy haulers. For ski lovers, cross-country trails and downhill ski resorts are just 15–20 minutes away. In the spring, you can hunt for morel mushrooms, and in the fall, take in the breathtaking foliage.

Community Amenities:
Guests have access to a heated in-ground pool (open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day), a pavilion, multiple playgrounds, and a basketball court—all just a short walk from the house. Kids especially love these options! We also provide two kayaks, a paddle boat, an aluminum rowboat, and life jackets for lake adventures. You can fish right off the dock or jump into the lake for a swim. Two mountain bikes are also available for exploring the trails.

The cottage’s shoreline features a grassy area with a sandy-bottomed lake, perfect for wading. Relax in the hammock nestled among the trees, or enjoy the large lakeside paver patio with a bonfire pit for stargazing, sing-alongs, and marshmallow roasting.

Spacious and Comfortable:
The home’s main floor features a 60-foot balcony with spectacular lake views, complemented by a matching lower-level patio. With two large family rooms on separate levels, there’s plenty of space for families or groups to spread out and enjoy their stay.

Bedrooms:
Two upstairs bedrooms, each with a queen bed, open directly onto the deck through very large door walls, offering breathtaking views of the lake and direct outdoor access.

Two downstairs bedrooms, each with two twin beds, have large windows framing serene lake views.

A queen-size sofa bed in the lower-level family room provides additional sleeping space.

To ensure a restful stay, beds have been upgraded to luxury mattresses featuring brands such as Avocado Green, Ghost, and Nectar—because a good night’s sleep is essential for a great vacation.

Dining and Outdoor Spaces:
The dining room is spacious enough to accommodate all guests, with additional outdoor seating available on the balcony and lower patio.

The house was perfect for our family of four. There were plenty of linens and towels provided. The house had more than enough space and great views of the lake. The kitchen had everything we needed. We used the grill twice for dinner and it worked great. Our kids loved fishing off the dock. I would absolutely recommend the home to anyone heading to Michigan.

Family Vacation

We had a great stay at Lake Arrowhead! Our party of nine included 3 generations, with plenty of room for everyone. The kids spent most of their time on the water in the kayaks, paddle boat, and rowboat. The house was completely stocked with everything you could possible need, including sticks for roasting marshmallows, firewood, and hot chocolate pods for the Keurig. It was a great time!

Beautiful Family Getaway

Situated on a private community lake, this house has an amazing view - perfect for a morning coffee on the balcony and a starlit sky for a campfire at night. The owner was extremely responsive and ensured we had everything to enjoy our stay. With 2 kids under 10, lake access and pool access made for great daytime fun while board games and books made a rainy day enjoyable too. I would not hesitate to recommend a stay at this beautiful family getaway.

Fantastic Lake Front Home

We had a great stay at this lake front home. When you walk into the cottage and see the view of the lake wow! Very clean, comfortable and well stocked. On the sunny days we were on the lake all day enjoying the kayaks and beach toys that were at the property! Luciana was a great host and responded very quickly to any requests we sent her. Even dumb questions like how to use the dishwasher lol. Would definitely recommend this property!!

Awesome vacation spot!

We had an amazing time! The house was clean and comfortable and right on the water. The kids had a blast swimming, kayaking, and fishing all day and having campfires in the evenings. All in all a great time and we are looking forward to coming back in the future!

The best host ever!

This house was amazing! It had everything and more. We had the best time boating, kayaking, beach time, fishing and so much more! Kids caught fish right off the dock bass, perch, blue gill and more. Laurel was extremely responsive to any questions I had. We loved every second of our trip. Kids said this house was by far one of our best vacations yet! House is equipped with everything and so spacious. We would love to spend more time/vacations here with Laurel. Thanks again for amazing memories with our family!

All You Could Ask For

Our family had a terrific week in Whileaway and on Lake Arrowhead. The lake house is charming, very clean and had every amenity possible to please grandparents,parents and children aged 16 months - 12 years.....right down to s'more sticks provided for the campfire! Tubing and fishing on the lake was fun and the lake wasn't overly busy. Pickleball, playground and the heated pool were an easy walk away. Only wish we could have stayed longer!

50th Wedding Anniversary Family Gathering

One of our favorite memories will be the early morning tranquility while sitting out on the deck, listening to the loons communicating their songs of joy as we enjoyed the pleasant surroundings. We spent countless hours enjoying the lake and the various amenities provided, from fishing to kayaking, all resulting in satisfying adventures! The community swimming pool provided additional hours of relaxation. Cooler evenings around the campfire truly added to the enjoyment. The nautical decor reminded all of us of my parents' summer cottage on Lake Erie, bringing back timeless memories! The home was well-equipped with everyday necessities and met all of our expectations. Laurel was very attentive to one small issue we discovered upon our arrival, providing a quick and conclusive solution for us. We hope to return again.

Even though we didn’t get lucky with the weather, we still had a great time at Whileaway. The house was super comfortable, well-stocked with everything we needed, and had so many extra things available for use (paddle boats, kayaks, rafts, etc.)! Great Place

Bright and clean. Wonderful property with an incredible view of the lake. Easy drive into Gaylord for activities. Would absolutely recommend this home for a relaxing vacation. We had six adults and three teens and there was plenty of room for all.

Great golf getaway

Beautiful place to enjoy the fall weather scenes of Michigan! Good location for golfing in surrounding areas and short drive from downtown. The owners were very responsive during our stay and the place was very clean. The firepit patio area was also very nice. Thanks again!

Relaxing beauty

Best location on the lake, for full experience advise renting a pontoon boat very relaxing lake to cruse and docking very easy. Views every day were wonderful especially mornings. Had a Bald Eagle fly in front of balcony, very special. Home was set up very well for family and well equipped for cooking and barbequing. Recommended to anyone who is looking for relaxing beauty

Lake Arrowhead

Everything over which the owner has control is A+ , 5 Stars!! The Lake House was spotlessly clean, the furniture and beds are VERY comfortable, the kitchen is fully stocked, the deck is gorgeous and this house has a Spectacular view of the lake. The dock is wide & metal with slats so it is NEVER slippery. The kayaks & water floats were fun. The pool is close by and great. The only negatives are the 30+ stairs to the lake, which are beautifully arranged with landings every 5 stairs or so, the water is about 3 feet at the shore and 6 feet at the end of the dock so small children would need to wear a life vest to play in the lake. The Hostess is AMAZING and we HIGHLY recommend renting this lake house. Very peaceful, quiet lake==relaxing. The house is also beautifully decorated. Jim R

Something for everyone

We had every age range stay for a family vacation and there was something for everyone. My toddlers enjoyed the pool and boating out to the sand bar. My teenage brother loved the trails for his dirt bike. My Dad enjoyed the fishing. The view from the windows was beautiful! The only downside was the that beach area had a sea wall which made it hard for toddlers to play without close parental supervision. The hosts were very responsive and we really enjoyed our family vacation.

Has everything on the wishlist of everyone in the family, including pool and lake swimming for the grandkids. This was our second visit and we already booked it for next year. If anyone reading reviews is concerned about lack of air conditioning, don’t worry about it. The temperature was in the mid-80’s to 90 the entire 7 days last year; a couple fans moved the air enough to keep the house comfortable.

Best stocked house ever!

Amazing lake front property with everything you need for a great time. Games and lake rafts/kayaks/swim dock made for a fantastic stay. New deck area with comfortable seating for all, nice grill, and outdoor dining area. Lake house had everything we needed and then some- nice extras that were appreciated. Chocolates on the table, enough dishes and kitchenware for several meals, spices, ziplock bags, aluminum foil, soaps, paper towels, etc. We spent the cool evenings at the fire pit with wood provided. We will be back to enjoy this lake house again!
