Cedar Cliff Retreat - Stunning 1920's Craftsman on Lake Superior Shore
Cedar Cliff is located on a dead-end road that runs along the Lake Superior shore. From the moment you walk through the doors of this incredible home, you will feel transformed.
The magnificent great room with a massive Carlton Peak fireplace has an antique dining room table that seats 12 and a drop-leaf English table that can seat 6 more. Two large screened-in porches flank this room and the windows that run its length have window seats for bird watching and reading or lake gazing. French doors in the middle open to the stairway that leads down to the water. The north shore is known for its craggy rocks and vistas and our shoreline offers a private experience of this magnificent place.
A fully-equipped kitchen has a six-burner, professional restaurant stove and connects to a charming breakfast nook and pantry. The six bedrooms are comfortably furnished with antiques, fine linens and local artwork. The bedrooms are set to the back of the house affording privacy and separation from group activities in the great room.
Cedar Cliff is a unique environment for your north shore vacation, combining old fashioned relaxation with modern amenities and many local attractions. For special events -please inquire.
Our stay was great. A little problem with getting the code for the lock box but it was resolved. The house is a beautiful old home. We loved that there was plenty of room for all of us. The steps down to the lake were very steep so some in our party chose not to go down to the lake. The only other thing was that again some in our party would have liked a walk in shower but other than those two issues our stay was great. Loved the two screened in porches where you could hear and see the lake. Booked again for next year!
This was a wonderful stay for our family! The location was ideal to travel to trails and waterfalls both south and north to the Canadian border. We loved the spaciousness of the home. The dining/living room and especially the large dining table allowed all 12 of us to eat together, visit, and play games. The campfire area was inviting, allowing for access to the shoreline rocks for swimming. The house was a trip to the late 1920's and early 30's when it was built and we enjoyed the beautiful woodwork and decor. The windows to the lake spanned the back of the house allowing for a wonderful view of the lake, including the amazing Sturgeon moon during our stay,. We also enjoyed both screened in porches! Our only suggestion is to make sure the oven pilot light is on for baking. None of us have gas stoves in our home and were not familiar with working with pilot lights. Except...our son who is in the restaurant industry and has experience with gas stoves and lighting pilot lights -- which allowed us to use the oven. Also, we believe one of the oven burners was not functioning because of the need to rotate our egg bakes and casseroles to ensure proper heating of each pan. But this was the only "hiccup" in our stay and we learned to work with it. All in all, it was a wonderful blessing for our family to live together for a week at Cedar Cliff Retreat!
Such a beautiful place to stay, especially for larger groups. We come back every year because of the incredible view and the big stone fire place and the ability to sit our entire group together for dinner and give each couple their own room.
We stayed at this property for 4 days and it was perfect, the view is amazing, itâs bigger in person than what the pictures show. it was very spacious, the campfire area was beautiful, its very quiet but we did have a stranger walk up on the property though so make sure you are locking the doors!
We were a group of 11 ladies whoâve been visiting the north shore for decades. This was our first stay at Cedar Cliff and we thoroughly enjoyed the place. We utilized the large dining table morning and night. There are plenty of dishes, utensils, cookware and bedding. We brought an extra coffee maker since we had a larger group.
We also enjoyed both screen porches, large living room and direct access to the lake. Getting down the wood stairs to the fire pit/lake was difficult for some of our older ladies but the others enjoyed sitting at the lakeâs edge. Itâs especially beautiful at sunrise. We were comfortable in the numerous beds and bedrooms. We split showers between evening and night since there are only two.
This property is just a few miles from Lutsen Mt and maybe 20-25 min from Grand Marais. We will be staying here in the future! Beautiful property and amazing home!
Cedar Cliff is a charming home from another time. Great attention has been paid to details...the furniture, the lamps, the well-organized and furnished kitchen. The two screened porches were great for relaxing and reading. The views of the lake were suburb! We had a red full moon and red rising sun thanks to the haze. They were spectacular. And, the location, in Lutsen was perfect for hikes on all the rivers.
COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE, OWNER SHOWED UP AND WAS VERY RUDE ABOUT US USING FULL DRIVE FOR PARKING. PROPERTY WAS VERY DATED AND NOT WELL KEPT, COULLD BE FANTASTIC WITH A LITTLE MAINTENANCE.
We always enjoy coming to Cedar Cliff for our annual gathering. This was our 8th time here in the past 10 years. Never grows old (and never do we!). The place is so charming and spacious for our large group of friends. We designate one of the porches for our jigsaw puzzle that we work on and the other porch for reading and relaxation. So great that we can all eat around the large table. The place is stocked with plenty of dishes and cookware. We will definitely be back.
Lovely property.
Room for all.
It is however, very dark inside .
We cooked dinner each day for 12. The oven would not stay lit after the first few days of our stay, so we improvised.
I was not able to bake the huge box of brownie mix!
We did enjoy the space.
Thank you!
Our family of 12 enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cottage to celebrate birthdays. The setting right on the shore of Lake Superior canât be beat. The fire pit is fabulous and we all enjoyed exploring down on the rocks and waterfalls. Enjoyed cooking together, sharing meals & playing games at the fabulous large dining table. What a fun weekend we had.
My now wife and I got married at Gooseberry Falls State Park, and stayed at the Cedar Cliff Retreat with our closest friends and family over the wedding weekend. It's the perfect place to showcase the north shore. We had friends visiting from Argentina to Alaska, and all were blown away by the beauty of the house and the surrounding area.
The house is well equipped for a large group. There are plenty of plates, cups, utensils, towels, a large fridge, oven, cabinet space, etc. There are instruments in the closet that were enjoyed by a few guests. It really amplified the vibes for the weekend :) The fire pit by the water is deluxe, and the rocky shore has some great spots to jump in!
The listing says events allowed - make sure to notify the property owner if you plan to have an event! After a little confusion and explaining to the local property manager, the property owner was very understanding and everything turned out ok! I want to say thank you to both for understanding. Our wedding weekend was absolutely perfect.
The Cedar Cliff Retreat is a space that makes you slow down and connect with those around you. The main focus is the large, central gathering space with plenty of seating. Sitting around, laughing, and catching up with old friends is really what you are supposed to be doing. It was a weekend to celebrate love, and it wouldn't have been possible without the Cedar Cliff Retreat.
Thank you again.
