It is ideal for cyclists, hikers, and water sports enthusiasts (sailing, surfing, kitesurfing), as well as for those who simply want to relax and enjoy nature. Boat rentals for sailboats, electric boats, pedal boats, and rowboats are available on-site.

A vacation in a vacation rental at the Steinhuder Meer is a delight for young and old alike, for nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts. The Steinhuder Meer is located about 30 km west of Hanover and, at 32 square kilometres, is Lower Saxony’s largest lake, situated in the heart of the nature park of the same name, which covers 310 square kilometres. The main resort towns on Lake Steinhude are Mardorf, Steinhude, Hagenburg, and Rehburg-Loccum. The landscape is diverse, featuring dunes, moors, heathland, wet meadows, deciduous and coniferous forests, and reed beds. During your stay in a vacation home on Lake Steinhude, enjoy the water, unspoiled nature, fresh air, and tranquility.

Recreational Activities Near the Vacation Rental at Steinhuder Meer

Steinhuder Meer offers numerous recreational activities both on the water and on land. Water sports enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy here, including boating, sailing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing. Boat rental stations as well as sailing and windsurfing schools around Steinhuder Meer provide top-notch equipment and qualified instruction. Lake Steinhude has become a particularly popular hub for kitesurfing. During the season, over 90 sailing regattas take place on Lake Steinhude. The lake is also known for its so-called “Auswanderer”—sailing boats over 100 years old that are found only here. Swimming and bathing in the lake are permitted, and the healthy moor water makes it especially enjoyable. The centrepiece is the artificial, 35,000-square-meter swimming island located in the south near Steinhude, featuring a sandy beach and sunbathing lawns. On the northern shore in Mardorf, the supervised “Weiße Düne” beach beckons. The surfing beach is also located nearby. Guests who’d rather be taken for a ride than take the helm themselves are in good hands on an excursion aboard a passenger ship or the “Auswanderer.” Golfers will find two golf courses in Rehburg-Loccum and Mardorf. Birdwatchers will find the Steinhuder Meer Nature Park to be an important bird sanctuary and a breeding and resting ground for numerous wading and waterfowl. A nature park information centre is located in the historic barn district of Steinhude. Around the lake, vacationers staying in vacation homes will find a variety of biking, hiking, and horseback riding trails through beautiful landscapes. Cyclists can, among other things, bike 32 km all the way around the Steinhuder Meer, partly right along the water’s edge and partly through idyllic natural scenery. And if you’re still bored in your vacation rental at Steinhuder Meer, have fun at the high-rope climbing park in Mardorf, playing tennis, horseback riding, mini-golf, fishing, or at the region’s numerous indoor and outdoor swimming pools. In case of bad weather, a trip to the metropolis of Hanover—just a stone’s throw away—is, of course, a great option.

Eating and Drinking on Vacation at Steinh
