Oceanfront in Hilo Hale Kai Suites Heritage Room - Queen Bed, Private Bath

Hale Kai Hawaii Suites offers four oceanfront rooms (booked individually) and a spectacular, panoramic view of the blue Pacific Ocean and Hilo Bay. We overlook the popular Honolii surfing beach in a peaceful location just 2 miles north of historic Hilo Town. Revel in the best views in Hilo while at our pool and oceanfront lanai!

The Heritage Room offers a queen bed, private bathroom with shower, WiFi, SMART TV, small fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, hot water pot, toaster, dishes and utensils, ceiling and portable fans, no air conditioning, and sliding door to lanai. Continental breakfast items are stocked daily and we invite all guests to swim in the pool or lounge on the oceanfront lanai.

A few NOTES: One parking spot is provided per room in this quiet residential neighborhood. All Guest Rooms are facing the ocean on the lower level of the property and there are over 30 steps down (pictured) to traverse to the rooms. Guests are responsible for carrying their luggage to their rooms. Bookings limited to 2 guests per room (including children). Quiet hours are 9pm to 8am for the comfort of all of our guests, Mahalo!

While at Hale Kai (House on the Ocean) Hawaii, enjoy watching surfers, dolphins, and seasonal humpback whales during their annual migration to the Hawaiian Islands from the north Pacific. The location of the room is amazing as it directly faces the ocean and they provide wholesome breakfast which is a nice touch! But there are some logistical issues with the property: 1. the 4 car parking space is the most uncomfortable lot I have ever encountered. It’s like someone drew the parking lot on a paper and forgot to take into consideration the ground reality. 2. The room doesn’t have any AC which could become an issue during hotter days. 3. There are a lot (a lot) of stairs to get to the rooms, so not accessible friendly at all! 4. If you’re staying in one of the farther rooms, there is no WiFi signal in those rooms, despite the property claiming it offers WiFi. 5. This property is part of larger Rentals and the only form of communication is via text but you never know with whom you’re chatting. They’re pretty responsive but it just felt weird! Overall the staff is friendly, service is good but wouldn’t really recommend staying here if you have other options.

Great location for surfers as there is a view of the break. Reaching the break requires a car, though it's close enough to see waves and those riding them. The room was clean. Breakfast was yummy and shifted to meet dietary issues. Place is close to town for shopping and restaurants. We'll be back. This room is the smallest and we'll likely choose bigger for next time.

My husband and I spent 2 nights in early March in this lovely room which was part of a large home overlooking the ocean. We were pleasantly surprised with fresh breakfast items for every morning and watched whales spouting from our terrace. Amazing.

I loved the location and the view from our room. Whale watching was my favorite part of the stay. The room was not bad. There were not enough towels for 2 people. The hair conditioner was plugged up. They did bring a bring a bottle of condtioner. What I didnt like was the bent sliding door that wouldnt close or lock. Lots of ants got into out pizza on the inside table. The internet would not work and was very bad most of our stay. On the upside we were compted one night.. The pool was cleaned the day we were leaving. Parking was difficult on the hill for an SUV. The really good for handicapped person on oxygen or wherlchair due to the steps to get to the room. They do mention steps on the advertisement. The management company did try very hard to fix the issues we had. Even with all the problems I would stay at this location again.

You are paying for the ocean view! No AC!

Positives- Beautiful location and ocean view. Well kept property! Clean! Mini fridge in room was stocked daily with muffins, fruit, eggs and yogurt. Coffee supplied in room was very good. Negatives- I’m sure I overlooked the fact that this place did not have AC, so my fault
but wow was it brutal! We slept with door open and fan.. top sheet, the sound of wind woke us up all night every night. Pillows were really flat and bed extremely soft. My husband is basically a professional driver, and he was surprised how difficult the parking was. 1 spot at a very tight angel that you have to do a 3 point turn to get in and out of on a very steep incline. I never reached out to property manager as we were on the go everyday! But met upon arrival room attendant and she was very friendly! We wouldn’t stay here again only due to no AC.

Refreshing Oceanside getaway!

Perfect for couples. Ocean front unit. Beautiful way to see the amazing Hilo sunrise. They provided fresh fruit, coffee, muffins and snack bar. My husband and I enjoyed our visit to Hilo. Very safe neighborhood. We got dinner to go and had our dinner in our oceanfront unit.

Lovely Small Hilo Room

Loved the views and very flowerful setting, very quiet. Minor suggestion re provided breakfast: fruit and special lactose-free milk was great but a little surprised that there was no bread for toast (though there was a toaster) or a bagel or English Muffin or something.

Great quiet place. Waking up and having fresh fruit and coffee on the lanai was incredible. Parking was a little tricky as the lot is incredibly small but we figured it out after a day or two.

Great Ocean Views and Breakfast too!

We had a lovely stay at Hilo Hale Kai Suites. The view from the rooms is unbeatable. You can relax on the porch and watch the surfers do their thing. Daily breakfast provided was also a huge bonus as we often found ourselves starting with early morning - one less this to worry about. We used is as a base for our days to Volcanoes National Park and it was a great place to come back to after a long day. Would recommend and stay again.

There were some positives, but other things I wasn't happy about. Positives-place was clean, owners accurately advised of difficulty stone steps to the back. As I have some mobility problems, the owner [she didn't identify herself], had her gardener or handyman assist me to the room, which was appreciated. Biggest positive-there was a spectacular view of Hilo bay in front of the room. Also the breakfast food was tasty. Negatives- I thought the pool would be larger-it was small and the entire 2 days we were there, a large metal pool cleaner was kept in the middle of the pool, making it much smaller. The jacuzzi, had a cover on it, which I removed to go in. I almost burned myself, as the temperature was 105 degrees [verified on the side]. The room was much smaller than expected.Lastly, we had the room until 10 am the last day. We had not seen any hosts or had contact with anyone, other than the hostess asking the gardener to help me with belongings. On the last morning, we went into town to buy something, but left some food of ours in the fridge and a very large bag with gift purchases, ie. expensive salt, several bags of Kona coffee beans etc. We were to indicate our checkout by leaving the room key inside of the room.We returned at 9:30 am, and saw that our bed was stripped, our belongings gone, I had to go all over the property looking for someone,until I found the cleaning person who looked for my large bag. I felt we had until the 10 am checkout and was uncomfortable

Amazing HILO Getaway

Great Amazing Weekend Getaway ~ Pool & HOT Tub was more than expected ~ Views were amazing ~ Breakfast Fruits Muffins were fresh & Taste Great ~ This Suites JUST like the posting. Location close to Hilo Town & Close to the airport. Neighbors we visiting from Germany and we all enjoyed our stay!! No voice at all during the evening.

Generous, clean, beautiful

Last time I stayed in Hilo was at a local hotel; which was mediocre, at best. This space was half the price and has breathtaking views right from your room, whales breaching daily during our visit, generous breakfast with fresh fruit oatmeal milk coffee yoghurt and muffins daily (with Hawaii grocery prices I would est $50 daily value), and the neighborhood felt safe. It was also cleaner than the Hilton we stayed at the night prior- even the baseboards were dust free. Lack of air conditioning wasn’t an issue with the ocean breeze and provided fan. Pool was chilly but refreshing after hiking about, and the hot tub was lovely once we figured out the tricks for getting it started. We would gladly stay here again!

Gorgeous view

Great spot. Would definitely stay here again. The fresh fruit breakfast were the best! A couple of things that prevented me from giving a 5 star review: the room didn't have a name labeled on the outside so it was a bit difficult to figure out in the dark; the parking space was a bit tight and slanted (had we known ahead of time, we probably would have gotten a smaller rental car); though we had a key to the room, the lock was worn/rusted and didn't work; I also found a few stray hairs on the shower walls. None of these issues were deal breakers - fantastic location let us watch whales, dolphins, sunsets and sunrises from our room. Thank you!!

Beautiful property, not enough attention to details

We arrived after dark and none of the outdoor lights were on so we had to navigate all the steps in the dark. We are each 88 years old and it was not fun. Also the second morning there was no breakfast. The room and property are wonderful but it was not a good start.
