Historic Industrial School House
Convient location just 4 miles from center of Purdue Campus, and right off a main road on the edge of town. If your looking for a unique historic property this is your home. Originally built in 1890 as a school house. Revamped into a cozy 1 bedroom + loft bedroom. Original bones with a touch of modern living. Large outdoor space with a firepit area. Property sits next door to a historic small cemetary. House is backed up to a wooded area with active train track. Patio has a table and chairs.
The home has an amazing vibe, however do be aware of a few thingsâŠ.1, it is adjacent to a busy highway/ a cemetery and a train track2. The loft area is exceptionally warmâŠyou will have to use the provided fan3. A lot of stink bugs were present in the houseâŠthey affect the stay
Stayed here with my boyfriend for a night. We were pleasantly surprised! Super cute ambiance within the house. Very very clean. TV, Air, water, all worked great. Definitely was skeptical since it is next to a cemetery but honestly didnât feel like it at all once you were inside. Great stay and great communication from the host. Would definitely stay again!
The place had charm but it wasnât enough to make up for the location. The fact the the train tracks are around 40 ft from the back door was challenging. The noise level and vibrations were quite unsettling and a train came by around 10 times in 24 hour period. The road noise is also very loud. Also it was a bit unsettling to be next to a cemetery and across the street from a corrections facility. I didnât realize it wasnât near a neighborhood at all.
Only stayed one night but would love to come back again and stay longer. Comfortable, open concept space, perfect amount of amenities for a short or longer stay.
We really enjoyed the decor and history of the building.
Clean place. Good communication. Very unique with lots of character. Agree with other reviews of the âHalloween factorâ but other than that, good place to sleep after a Purdue game.
My educated guess is that this converted one-room schoolhouse was actually also a small church as the property butts up to a cemetery. The "house" is pretty unique, and we definitely enjoyed our stay. There were several dead flies near all of the windows, and we did see a few spiders and other crawly creatures inside during our stay. But aside from that, the place was neat and clean. The bathroom and kitchen were basically spotless, and the bathroom had plenty of extra toilet paper and shampoo and conditioner. The house is decorated tastefully and the television worked great. The loft was cool! The only reason I didn't choose 5 stars all around is because of what I'd call the Halloween factor.... Not only is an active railroad track only 10 yards behind the house, the aforementioned cemetery is a bit spooky, and the front door has three windows built in it which give an unwelcomed view of the correctional facility almost directly across the street! EEK! It wouldn't take much for a criminally-minded person to break the window in the door nearest the deadbolt, reach through and unlock the door, and come on in. Believe me, I slept with one eye open! I want to come back again with my husband and some friends and embrace the scare. But, I was a bit surprised by the "bonus" Halloween atmosphere on this visit! We attended a Purdue football game on the visit, and that was a ton of fall fun!
very private, huge backyard with fire pit, cool train stop over the fence, slick renovation, super comfortable, nice beds, cozy, vaulted ceilings, well equipped.
This schoolhouse is so cute and only a few miles from campus. It was well-equipped with bedding and soft towels. The kitchen was great, as was the outside fire pit. Plenty of parking. Now I-fi issues. The only issue we had was that there is a train track literally behind the house, so it was a little difficult to sleep with passing by. The owner was responsive. I would return in the future.
We enjoyed our stay at the Historic Industrial School House. The renovation design and decor used to modernize this historic building was very clever. Our teenagers enjoyed the loft bedroom. The kitchen was well equipped to cook in, and we especially enjoyed the selection of K-cups.
The Historic Schoolhouse worked perfectly for my brother and I to stay and visit my family. It was very cool from a historic standpoint. it was very clean and comfortable. It was cheaper than a hotel and more convenient! It is located close to the road and a train tracks, but the bricks were a good noise insulator. We were very happy with the stay and will come back.
