Secluded And Rustic Island Cabin On The Bold And Rocky Penobscot Bay Coast...

This 16' x 24' cabin sits on eleven acres of ocean frontage at 105 feet above sea level (one of the highest points on Islesboro), providing beautiful westerly views of Penobscot Bay, Northport and Belfast, including some of the most colorful sunsets witnessed by the human eye. The cabin contains a kitchenette, with a four-burner electric stove and oven, as well as an under counter refrigerator. There is a 3/4 bath which services two adults easily as well as a queen sized futon to sleep two inside the cabin. Another couple could set up a tent and camp if a group of four were interested in traveling/vacationing together. While there is no landline phone, there is good cell service for the more popular carriers as well as 1 GB of internet service with wifi.

But, you don't come here for the social perks. Folks come here, myself included, for the serenity, seclusion and the views...

Great Spot
Excellent host! Great connections on the island for everything. Great information on Ferry status, etc. Cabin is truly rustic, spartan appointments as described. Great location and view west with good weather. Bring your goodies, luxuries from the mainland. Lobsters are available tho!

The listing is accurate
We had a lovely four nights. New futon was super comfy. Location was really quiet and not buggy. Surrounding woods are spectacular. Great place from which to explore the island for the first time. Host is super helpful. Would stay again for sure.

Fabulous getaway
We've stayed on Islesboro a number of times and are delighted to discover this property. George was responsive and well-organized. The cabin kitchen was much better equipped than I expected. If that remains the case, you can assume all the basic tools will be there. And the location was incredibly calm and private. You can't really see the water well, but the forest was quiet and relaxing, and we were at the beaches or hiking (or eating ice cream at the Dark Harbor Shop!) most of the time away. George told us that a new futon was on order, and that is the only thing that really needs an upgrade. I'm sure it will arrive soon. We brought a foam mattress topper, and that proved essential. Personally, I would recommend bringing one in any case, just because futons can be less forgiving--if you care about that. In short, a wonderful time was had by all!

Gem in the forest
George gave excellent directions to locate this gem in the forest. Ferry transport was easy to navigate. The cabin is cozy and charming and has all the basic essentials. The view from the cabin is breathtaking and the surrounding area just magnificent. The fall foliage mixed with the forest greens provided beauty abound everywhere we turned. Although not advertised we did find several areas where we could explore along Islesboro; Most notably, Seal Harbor, Towne Beach, and Hutchin's Island. The sunrise and sunset views from the cabin and Seal Harbor were spectacular and stunning! Overall was a great and memorable anniversary for my husband and I. This is a fantastic place to go to get away from it all. And if you do forget something, Durkee's Store has just about everything. Would definitely recommend!

A Isolated Cabin in the Maine Woods on an Island! A+!
A++! This cabin is the real deal. Isolated and off the main road, off a gravel road, off a rutted dirt road in the middle of a forest. For my wife and I, it was heavenly. How isolated? We never saw another person the entire time we were at the cabin. Beautiful sunsets. Gorgeous stars. How fantastic is this cabin? In four days, my wife went from, "Oh, this is nice." to "Oh, we are ABSOLUTELY coming back here!" This cabin is NOT for you if you need a Starbucks within 100 feet of you at all times; have to eat at a restaurant for every meal; must have WIFI at all times; and cannot live without A/C. However, this cabin IS for you if you enjoy the scenic quiet of the Maine woods; enjoy "roughing it" with a bit of comfort; and need to get away from it all for a bit. DO: You get to the island on a ferry. Make ferry reservations for both coming AND going. Be patient when you call - the ferry folks’ duties seem to leave them little time for answering phones. You cannot leave a message. You have to call repeatedly. Get a full tank of gas before getting on the ferry. No gas stations on the island.
Bring cash. The few businesses on the island seem to only take cash. Bring groceries with you. We stopped at Walmart / Target in Augusta. Bring linens, towels, blankets, pillows, flashlights, an ax, hatchet, and wood saw. THE CABIN HAS: Grill & fire pit. PLENTY of firewood (mostly pine) to gather in the surrounding forest.
 Electric heat.
The kitchenette is adequately stocked for a vacation home: a small electric stove (range and small oven) and microwave along with basic pots, pans, & utensils. A couple nice steamers for seafood and some heavy duty BBQ tools. We preferred to cook outside with the grill (bring charcoal!) and fire pit.
Futon. Yes, there's a futon. We brought a queen-size air-mattress. 'A wise decision,' said my wife. My back agreed with her.
NOT NECESSARY BUT NICE If you have a camping lantern, bring it.
Hammocks. Inexpensive on Amazon. Priceless for an afternoon lounging in the Maine woods.
If you can, drive a four wheel drive truck / van. Remember ‘rutted dirt path’? Our sedan bottomed out several times. No damage (whew!), but take it slowly.
TL;DR This is an amazing cabin if you're looking for a low-cost rustic getaway in the remote woods of Maine.
