Everything about our stay was wonderful! The room was spotless, the staff was so kind, and the two friendly cats were an adorable bonus. We were also really grateful that they let us check in a little early — such a lifesaver! My only tiny note is that the pillows were a bit flat and one of the blinds had a broken section, but we were able to fan it closed easily. Truly no biggie at all. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely come back!

By all appearances, Heron House should have been the perfect lodging experience. Unfortunately for my wife and I, we were severely disappointed. First, the positive. The place is lovely. The staff welcoming. The problem was they gave us a room (#6) that smelled of dead iguana. I mentioned the bad smell to the desk clerk and he said it was touch up painting that the staff was doing. That was not the smell but I didn't say anything. I know what dead iguana smells like. But I just nodded and hoped the smell would disappate because we liked the room so much. Well, we suffered through the first night but that was all I could take. The next day I asked the other staff manager to come to the room and he immediately smelled what we had smelled all night the night before. He wanted to move us to a different room but none were available so he called the sister hotel (another Heron House 5 blocks away) and they had a room available. Now, honestly, I didn't ask but I would have thought that they would comp the previous night but they didn't. Okay. But the moving to the other hotel...well, we had to pack up our bags and trudge 5 blocks to the other hotel. Again, if I were the desk manager I would have arranged a ride to the new hotel. But all we got were directions on how to get there. The second hotel isn't as nice as the one we reserved but at least I could breath. Such a shame as the place had such great potential.

Room and vicinity to everything was great. The check in process was terrible felt pushed through not helpful when we asked about parking in fact came across as rude. If you come down with a car look for accommodations that also have parking.

The establishment has pretty grounds and some rooms are very decent but the room we were given was uninhabitable; it was not clean, there was mold on the walls and the room smelled musty and moldy, the door to the bathroom was a health hazard as the shriveled paint from moisture created sharp edges that easily scrape your feet unless you take precaution; the towels were were provided were shredded and had holes in them. These are just some of the problems aside from the large roaches in the room that we had to chase in order to try and sleep. The air condition unit is so loud a person cannot get a normal nights rest in there. All of this might have been dealt with in a better fashion but the staff chose not to address our complaints and did not offer us any type of reimbursement for a very uncomfortable night !

I have stayed at this property and also the sister property in the past. The positives it's hard to beat the location of being one block off Duval Street and down a little way from the marina. Also, a grocery store just around the corner. Now the somewhat non positives the room (room 2) have not been updated in years! Also the valves in the bathroom were a mystery on operation. Would I stay here again maybe not since there so many options in Key West. I think since the owner retired and past the reins to the daughter things have not been updated.

Large room. A cup or glass in the room would be nice. Couldn’t find a hair dryer. We would have preferred a light cotton blanket on the bed rather than a heavy duvet. There was no top sheet. Delightful breakfast. Owner very helpful, friendly and customer oriented.

This is my second time visiting Heron House and the staff has been helpful and courteous both times. The breakfast staff was also very nice and staff made sure everything was filled up for breakfast.
