The John Muir Lodge was perfect for my trip to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The area around the lodge is very quiet. This is especially true if you get out at 4:30 in the morning for a sunrise hike, and you can feel how quiet and dark it is in the parking lot. It feels like the whole world is asleep. In fact, the only issue I really had was finding a place to park after about 8:45 PM because the people who stay at the John Muir Lodge are all in their rooms by that time. You don't have people staying up late and making noise. The Grant Grove visitor center, restaurant, gift shop, and market are all about a 3.5-minute walk away (I timed it), which was very convenient. And if you need a sunset every night, Panoramic Point is only a 2-mile drive away, which was also convenient. Panoramic Point is also good for sunrise; I had the sunrise there to myself on a Tuesday morning. Sequoia is only an hour away for most of its attractions. I'll grant that the Lodgepole market is much better than the Grant Grove market (and the Wuksachi Lodge is better than the Grant Grove restaurant for breakfast), but you also have many more people down in Sequoia. There is also more of a bear problem in Sequoia than up in Grant Grove.

What a fantastic stay we had at John Muir Lodge! Every detail was perfect, from the coffee in the lobby in REAL ceramic mugs, friendly and helpful staff, clean comfortable rooms, quick walk to a fantastic restaurant, gift shop and market at Cedar Grove! I cannot say enough. Highly recommend. Anyone with anything negative to say about the lodge should go stay at a fancy hotel in civilization…you just don’t get it IYKYK
Helpful sign in the lobby upon arrival
A quick hike from the lodge near the General Grant tree
General Grant did not disappoint and was a short hike from the lodge

Perfect for what we wanted. Quiet and right in the park. It made getting around Kings Canyon and Sequoia Parks so much easier and saved a lot on drive times.

The lodge and its employees are amazing! Everyone is very friendly. WiFi and cell service are spotty and not extremely reliable if that is important to you. The location is amazing if you are spending time in Kings Canyon or Hume Lake. We look forward to returning!

John Muir Lodge is great for those wanting a basic inside-the-park experience. The rocking chairs on the porches were delightful! Our two queen room was nice and clean and included a small fridge. The only dining in the area is the park run concession which is pricey and not very good. Convenience of having a nice place to sleep close to the sights is worth it though since it is a long drive to just about any of the other available lodging.

Friendly Staff, decent rooms. Except the shower was really short. Loved the location. Loved the rocking chairs on the decks. Would have liked a few more microwaves in the main area. But the service at the Grant Grove village was super slow and they were way under staffed! However, we Definitely will come back again! But with more of our own food!

Peaceful Stay

Great experience staying inside the park. No A/C, but plenty cool enough with window open and fan on. Appreciated how quiet it was. No frills, but clean and enjoyable. Coffee in the room and in the lobby, breakfast for purchase down the hill in the park restaurant.

This was a great way to see both National Parks in a timely and convenient way. We went in May, so the rooms not having air conditioning was fine. The restaurant wasn’t running at normal hours, so that was a bit frustrating, but we navigated it and overall enjoyed our stay.
