Welcome to The Henry, your historic 5-star retreat. From the Bourbon Trail to Churchill Downs, enjoy all Louisville has to offer while escaping to your private sanctuary. Near downtown and Nulu, the historic Henry Hensel House has been newly and thoughtfully designed and renovated to have all the modern amenities you need and want, while keeping the Italianate charm. Very walkable with easy access to trendy restaurants, shops and bars. Direct and quick access to I71, I64, and I65.

Our home affords you the unique opportunity to stay in a house on the National Register of Historic Places, that was built for Henry and Mary Hensel (the daughter of the first butcher in Butchertown). During your stay you can enjoy the uncounterfeitable historic character with expansive 12' ceilings all original wood accents and features.. While simultaneously experiencing the fresh and modern updates and amenities, thoughtfully and expertly designed. Bedrooms are accessed via stairs only.

+ Inside the kitchen, you'll find all the silverware, pots, pans and plates you need to cook yourself dinner from scratch. Because sometimes we just want a home-cooked meal, right?

+ Sleeping arrangements: There are two queen beds, a full bed, and a comfy couch in the living room (draw straws on who sleeps here). There are two bedrooms upstairs, each has a queen bed and the larger of the two has an additional full bed.

Reservation was canceled the day of our arrival.

Like several other people’s reviews off this property, our reservation was also canceled the day of our arrival. Luckily, we were able to get a hotel so we drove by the property and there were actually other people staying there. The reason they told us it was canceled was because of flooding, but obviously it wasn’t.

Canceled 2 hours before check-in

This property has instant booking- a setting that can be changed by the property manager. We booked it, received confirmation, then waited for the check-in instructions
 which never came. After messaging the owner twice (through the app, as you’re supposed to) we finally reached out to VRBO to get some help. Only after they gave us a direct number to text, did the owner reply saying “I don’t know why it let you book, the property isn’t available.” Then canceled our booking 2 hours before we were supposed to check-in with a “have a great weekend”. This seems to be a theme with this property - looks like we were the third booking to have it canceled shortly before check-in.

Awful Experience

We were less than an hour away when our booking was cancelled. We never even made it to the house. We spent 2.5 hours looking for a place with availability and ending up driving an extra 45 minutes to find somewhere.

Cancelled after check-in

Cannot speak to the state of the property but my reservation was cancelled 30 minutes after the designated check in time. I had received multiple confirmation emails from Vrbo weeks before my reservation and was only notified that the property was over booked while I was trying to check in. Be cautious when booking and maybe confirm with the property manager directly to confirm your stay! I was 5 hours away from home and was not reimbursed until the next business day, which was two days later. All the while having to find a new place to stay with no notice and no help from Vrbo or even an apology from the property manager. Would not recommend this listing or any other with Vrbo after this stay.

Nice house, terrible location

The house and owner were great. Very cute, updated historical home. The house is a couple of blocks from JBS meat processing plant. During our stay the house was downwind from the plant. The smell was terrible. I don't know if this is a normal occurrence. We stayed on weekdays. When the plant was not running (evenings) the smell went away. But we couldn't be outside during normal business hours. Too bad about the smell because the house was great otherwise.
