In the Italian-speaking, Ticino canton of Switzerland, the city of Lugano is well known for its rich cultural heritage and stunning natural setting. On the banks of the Lago di Lugano, the waterfront walk is not to be missed. Or take a day trip out on the lake, to really appreciate the magnificent scenery. Back on land, Lugano is home to a wide variety of museums, including the Museum of Art of Italian Switzerland (MASI), just a 5-minute walk from the apartment, one of Switzerlandâs most popular cultural centres. The Renaissance cathedral of San Lorenzo (10 mins walk) is known for its splendid architecture inside and out. For magnificent views out over the city, lakes and mountains head for the funicular railway up to Monte San Salvatore (25 mins walk).
The closest international airports are in Italy - Milan Malpensa 1 hour and 10 minutes away by car, or Milan Linate, a 1 hour and 20 minute journey. Arriving by train? Luganoâs railway station is a 12 minute walk from the apartment.
We loved the access to downtown Lugano and the Bus stations. We were able to access Franklin University easily and enjoyed the restaurants and shopping near us. The Migros was a great find!
Our only problem was that it has not grown up, yet. It was missing small amenities like: enough living room seats, additional lights (one bathroom was VERY dark), the doors are mis-aligned and so donât open very easily. Little stuff that will get sorted as the building gets lived in.
