The hotel is well situated for walking to the river and centre of Melbourne though is not obvious with the entrance down a drive-through between two roads and reception on the 7th floor. Included breakfast was a great bonus for us but we found the bed uncomfortably hot with its plastic section presumably to protect the mattress and the bottom flat sheet being so small it kept rucking up.

Convenient Location - Sub Standard Stay

Location was convenient however it would be advantageous to have check in & carpark access on the website as having to park in a driveway, go up to level 7 to check in then back down to street level to then access carpark was not convenient. Reception staff chatting amongst themselves oblivious to guests queuing to check in. Room was like sauna when we walked in as the heater was on high. Sleep quality was not great as the mattress was like a rock, no top sheet & a short, lightweight coverlet. Room cleanliness was unhygienic with the bins not emptied, sticky substance on bedside table & only 1 towel for 2 guests. An hour wait for a burger & a toasted sandwich in the bar, delivered cold. Breakfast was equally underwhelming with stone cold bacon, eggs ect & warm juice, it was a common theme of other guests leaving their food uneaten which was not only a waste of food but non tempered food & juices can cause food poisoning! After checkout we stopped at a nearby cafe to eat. Checkout staff was friendly & efficient however our overall experience was very sub standard!

Average at best. Staff at breakfast were drinking juice in uniform in the floor in front of guests, glassware and cutlery were dirty. Purchases from “cafe” were left over an hour to action and only after I queried what was taking so long. Front desk staff appeared to want to be anywhere else but at work. Bed was extremely uncomfortable but location was awesome.

My 2 year old and I had a lovely stay at the Holiday Inn Southbank. The reception staff were very lovely (I have seen reviews about rudeness but I experienced none of this). Traveling solo I felt very safe at this hotel; incredibly quiet and secure. Very accessible to Southbank and Flinders station. We will definitely be coming back here.
