Family House in Lake District National Park
Full of period features but with up to date amenities this 250 year old house with it's private garden, is an ideal base for exploring the Lake District. It is on a main road but very quiet at the back. It has a permanent awning covering the patio and secure out buildings if you wish to store bikes or kayaks. There is a public car park nearby which guests should use. You can access the back garden directly from the car park via the green gate. The western side of the Park is not so busy as other parts but is is still easy to get to Coniston, Windermere and Wast Water. Nearby Ravenglass has a minature railway that takes walkers from the coast up to Eskdale Green and on to Boot Station. Both Wasdale Head and Boot are good points to set off from the climb Scafell Pike - England's highest peak.
250 year old house very quaint and extremely warm,, does require some updating re oven, microwave, sofas, Bathroom silicone, and 4 new mattresses needed, house is lovely and spacious, with only a short drive away to the beach and town you certainly need your own mode of transportation to venture around. We managed to explore the lakes, beach and some beautiful towns from here, there are also lots of walks and local beauty spots, the village itself doesnât have anything in it only a cafe and village store but if your coming for a break away then a perfect base shut off from the world,, Hugh was great at communicating throughout the trip..
Had a great long weekend at the property. Had loads of stuff there to use the kitchen to its full potential. Was lovely and warm and everyone had plenty of space in the accommodation. We were able to celebrate Christmas with my mum who is going to Guatemala next month and wonât be there. A few tiny tweaks will make this a perfect let but already great as it is.
Hugh is very easy to communicate. We have all that we need although would benefit a new bed, I still managed to sleep well anyway, since I was really tired from all days activity.
It is a very good area to live but house is very noisy..
Oven wasn't cleaned couldn't even use it had to drive 15 miles to get takeaway..No shops after 5pm you have to drive to Millom to buy anything. Not very comfortable bad couldn't sleep..
Good things it's close to some of the attractions..
Great house, dry, many big & airy common rooms & nice bedrooms 1st floor & attic, also covered dining table outside. Quite remote, shop & tea room (no bar) in village. Can walk out of door to Ravenglass or Eskdale, & return by train(s).
