We stayed at Red Lion Hotel in Monterey one night. It is located close to freeway exit and convenient. Although a photo of a restaurant in the hotel is shown on the website, it has not been open since Covid. However, there is a shopping mall right next to the hotel where there are great restaurants. Also, there is Whole Foods right there where you can get nice meal to go. We stayed with our dog (additional $30/dog per night) in a dog-friendly room. The room was larger than we thought, and the bed was comfortable for all of us.

Beds in 1st room were very uncomfortable. The springs in the mattress springs dug into your back. Changed rooms and the next room were a little better but could not sleep for more that 3 hrs at a time and woke up with sore backs. The showers did not work properly. We stayed 3 nites and the coffee pods were not replaced in the room. This hotel is in a great location but will not stay here again.

The floor of the room was dirty, and there were dirty towels inside the closet. I couldn't stay another night under those conditions. I had originally booked for two nights but ended up staying only one because of the cleanliness issues.

I only have 2 complaints. On multiple occasions was there not hot water for a shower. The complaint was with the general attitude of the night manager just not someone i would personally have helping guests. Beyond that it was lovely and the experience i recieved during the day was stellar. MIguel ( day manager ) deserves a special shout out. He was fantastic and delivered way above par service.

Parking was free, but as an old hotel, not much could attract guests. This hotel has free breakfast, but no one knows it. Even the staff in the front desk haven’t mentioned. The overall for this hotel I rated at middle level. But the price is excellent! Thank you for your attention !

All the staff were excellent. This hotel has not been updated in a long time so it is in disrepair. The hot tub is emptied and corded off the pool tiles are badly chipped. The front of it is a gas station where there are several homeless people who loiter. When we arrived there were three cars in the parking lot that appeared to be homeless people cleaning out their things, but they were gone by that evening. The corners in the room were dusty with debris. The furniture was all chipped and very old. I’m sure the cleaning staff were doing their best with what they had. Our window wouldn’t open because it was broken. There was a plastic bag over the fire detector and somebody had clearly been smoking in this non smoking room before us.
